knowing he is likely to use his elbows def makes the official look out for that more.
Not wrong. I finally watched it last night. I can’t argue against the call itself, but I will argue against the non-call for the push he received immediately prior that would’ve prevented it in the first place. I have no respect for Sochan’s style of play. Lance Stephenson must be his favorite NBA player.
I saw it and he definitely threw the elbow backwards. It was 100% at least a flagrant 1. I thought it seemed clearly deliberate and intentional. It was preceded by a shove by Manek to clear room under the basket, but the Baylor player quickly responded by moving back towards the rim, and Manek threw the high elbow backwards at the guy’s head.
I saw this completely different. I saw Sochan shove Manek, causing the elbow to be retaliatory, which is what I think caused them to upgrade to a 2.
Sochan did lots of similar cheap fouling that went uncalled all game (which is fine imo, so long as its called that way all game).
I’ve rewatched it 10 times now. I don’t think the blond guy (Sochan) shoved or pushed or did anything other than use his feet to move into position to rebound.
Here’s link to the clip on ESPN: https://www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/33547092
Agree you don’t see it from that angle. The overhead one’s better. I stand by my observation, Sochan outright throws the shoulder into him linebacker style:
I still think that angle makes Manek look like the offender. He’s the one throwing his arms and elbows around more. I don’t know of other plays prior to this one affected his demeanor in that instance, but I think ejection looked warranted.
That angle doesn’t make it look as bad. The one from behind the basket where Manek looks back at Sochan before throwing the elbow I think it what made him get ejected. If he never looks back then there can be a case it was not on purpose
Right, I’m not arguing against Manek getting called. His action was definitely excessive. I’m suggesting that the continuous physicality of Sochan, including his trying to throw his shoulder at Manek on this play, led to Manek’s more aggressive action. If the shoulder was called as a foul it may have prevented the elbow being thrown in the first place. The refs already lost some control prior to this taking place.
If this call was a flagrant 2 on Manek, Sochan should’ve received at least flagrant 1 when he locked his legs in while Bacot was trying to stand up.

I’m half half :oh_yeah: for Duke/UNC. Hope it’s a great game and no one gets punched in the face.

They both get expelled from the tournament and it becomes a best two of three for the other two teams.
TIL: This is the FIRST EVER matchup of Duke and UNC in the NCAA Men’s College Basketball Tournament.
I might actually have to watch this game, or at least record it and contemplate further whether to watch or not.
Eric Church cancels a concert so he can go to the FF matchup between UNC/Duke.
Tickets were refunded but lots of people are pretty ticked. One article I read had someone saying they flew their parents in to watch their kids and had flight, rental car and hotels prepaid for their trip to Austin.
OK, season over!
Poultry cancel shows to watch UNC-Duke:
Well, they “called in sick.” Allegedly.
from the Orlando Sentinal comes this…
the Kansas Jayhawks and coach Bill Self — are under NCAA investigation and have been accused of five massive Level 1 violations while their two sneaker-company bagmen sit in prison for bribing players to sign with KU
That’s right, Jim Gatto and Merl Code, two former Adidas employees, probably couldn’t even watch the game Monday night (hey, bedtime comes mighty early in the federal penitentiary), yet Self was able to celebrate a national championship while making about $6 million annually under his new lifetime contract.
If the NCAA ends up vacating KU’s national championship, does Self have to repay any bonus he earned for winning it?
