1/6 Select Committee

This would be kind of accurate if it wasn’t for the fact that conservatives are increasingly crazy at an increasing rate, which makes sensationalized stories about them pretty believable.

  1. I agree that CNN’s political section is horribly sensationalized. I think they have new leadership so that might be changing.
  2. Republicans (conservatives?) also portray themselves as crazy people on Twitter without any need for a CNN filter. See our competing threads on “saying the darndest things.”

The temper tantrum is also hearsay.

Does anyone doubt it was real?

True for the one in the car. Sounds like she heard the ranting about the metal detectors first hand. She missed the dinner plate throwing, but directly saw the evidence. There are enough reports out about Trump temper tantrums that I think they are probably fairly regular. Other than Trump himself, has anyone ever denied that Trump has tantrums?

Until any of these cowards is willing to testify under oath to contradict her I’m inclined to believe her testimony.

Conservatives stormed the capitol on Jan 6. I don’t think the media is making them look crazy. It’s their actions that are doing that.

Now the GOP has determined that storming the capitol was “legitimate political discourse”.

But you still think it’s CNN just making them look crazy and it’s not their own actions?

Liberals tried to kill a Supreme Ct justice. They’re all crazy right?

Yes, a whole mob of liberals, in fact every liberal ever, tried to do that.

Did the Democratic Party as a whole adopt the notion that the killing a SCOTUS justice is acceptable?
Did a Democratic President openly encourage the killing of the SCOTUS Justice?
Did the Democratic members of congress largely support the attempted killing of a SCOTUS justice?
Did the Democratic member of congress largely support the president when he encourage the killing of a SCOTUS justice?

Obviously, the answer to all of those is no. So I have no idea why you are comparing the two. We aren’t pointing to one or two extremists who have been condemned by the GOP, we are looking directly at the GOP itself. What makes them look crazy is what it’s leadership actually supports and what it’s voters are supporting when they go to the polls.

These two things aren’t even remotely comparable. I’m not sure why you tried to compare them.

Honestly you all talk down conservative thought here exactly the same way conservatives talk down liberals in their corner of the internet. You run off any dissent and the. Revel in your rightness. The conservatives just have a 15 year head start on liberals, but liberals will be doi g the same stupid stuff in the next few years.

They will be throwing big macs at their staff and inciting insurrections at the capital?

What are you basing this prediction on?

You think that in 15 years a liberal president will be saying that assassinating his VP is a good idea, and that his colleagues in Congress will support him? Really?

Here’s Lucy being all optomistic about us having a president and congress in 15 years…

I think conservatives have gone so far off the rails that the political pendulum is starting to swing back and conservative is becoming an insult.

Well, I’m hopeful at least. Maybe liberals can act better, but i don’t think the country can keep going the direction it has been going.

I’m not sure what you mean by “conservative thought.”

If you mean “smaller, less intrusive government” and “fiscal responsibility” and all the stuff “conservative thought” used to represent, I disagree with you strongly. I think we scooter support that [no, I have no idea how the hell scooter got in there. Fucking phone autocorrect not working], and then the question is how we achieve that and strike proper balances.

If you mean “screaming and laughing at others when you think their feelings are hurt, then crying hysterically when your feelings actually get hurt” and “government intruding on the rights of individuals and rights enshrined in the Bill of Rights in the name of safety” and “claiming to be pro-life but really being pro-birth and abandoning support of individuals after birth” and “refusing to acknowledge losing an election by making up countless unfounded claims of fraud” and " attacking government as it attempts to carry out its constitutional duties in certifying accurate election results" and all the other shit that’s passed for “conservative thought” over the last 6 years and counting, … well, fuck yeah I’ll talk it down. I’ll speak out against it and fight like hell to keep it from becoming the future of this country.

It seems the individual states are gaining more power at the expense of the Feds through the combination of SC rulings and Congressional gridlock. Seems more important than ever to live in a state whose government shares your values? I don’t see Americans leaving for other countries as moving between states is an easier option.
