Or just left it alone!
This is a tissue of lies.
See, there was another SpaceLobster. An evil SpaceLobster.
And I killed him.
Just because you put an “ize” suffix at the end… Oh, wait. Carry on!
You skipped the part where Serena decided to create a new discussion board after the SOA decided that only real-life-named posters could post on its site. Nicknamed “The Desert” by some smart ass, their site quickly became sparsely populated, as predicted by the smart ass.
This was before the eventual “SpaceLobster” incident, but it is important to note why the AO came into existence.
Has the smart ass been confused with a grumpy old lady?
he’s not a fan

Correct, but that’s before my time and thus isn’t part of my recollection.
Yeah, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen, and that it is not part of the history.
Your true history is not compleat enough.
And, now that you know (and that it’s all true), you can add it to your memories.
You’re welcome!!
okay, we know why the people who posted on the SOA forum went to the ao. seems a little less clear why people left the WC for the ao. was the ao just better?
i originally knew about the ao when it was the forum on the free site. a coworker told me about it. i didn’t start actually posting on it until december, 2001 when it was the ao.
There was some kerfuffle on the CAS water-cooler, and the CAS over-reacted. There was an enormous haiku thread that everyone had participated in, and most people had lost interest in. And a couple of people took it in an inappropriate direction, and the CAS emailed employers of everyone in the thread or something like that. I don’t remember exactly.
But I think the CAS was happy to drive the traffic elsewhere and not be responsible for it. An independent forum still served the membership without the CAS being associated with … All sorts of things.

Forum got nuked good
Thanks, I actually didn’t know that piece of the puzzle. AO didn’t become part of my life until 2003.
I thought it was still Rebel Outpost then?
I thought it didn’t become Actuarial Outpost until 2004 or 2005.
Coulda sworn it was still Rebel Outpost when I joined in 2003.
yes, it was. i meant it wasn’t that predecessor website that they could only have 100 threads. the rebel outpost just had a name change to the actuarialoutpost, but it was the same website.
Gotcha, and that does jive with my memory.
I think the “Rebel Outpost” name was attracting too many Star Wars fans, so it had to be changed.
(Joking, of course, because I have to note that.)
(I think DWS changed it when they took over.)
The real question is when did www.rebeloutpost.com stop redirecting to Actuarial Outpost!
