I really need to learn, when the first guess isn’t close, to overshoot rather than undershoot on guess 2. Since when I undershoot on guess 2, I may still undershoot on guess 3 and still be over 1000 miles short. Having it straddled is more useful

Yes, making a guess that leaves it straddled is often a help. A rule of thumb I do is 6200 miles is 90 degrees of equatorial longitude
You know your longitudes? The only ones I know are the international date line and Greenwich. Wouldn’t have a clue about anywhere I’ve lived.

1 Hard to guess the year although it did look to be a digital photo. At first I thought Russian but went western Europe with what looked like a B and an S in the window
3 I saw that building just 2 years later (without scaffolding) but didn’t recognize it.
4 Didn’t recognize that as a tank. I thought it was a truck doing some tar repair on the road. Definitely looked Eastern European though.

Tried to follow yesterday’s advice (guess 1 and 2 should straddle it) but guess 1 was so far off that I underestimated what I would need to straddle. Then was too geographically challenged to recover.
Because another relevant tip is to choose countries whose locations you know pretty well, to give you a firm idea where you need to be. Followed that for guess 1, but not well enough for 2 or 3

I really like WhenTaken and was thinking of recommending it to some other users on this forum, so if it was renamed, it would be a bit easier for them to find.
