based on some recent results, I started by guessing the same country as the Wordle answer. It wasn’t right, but I wouldn’t have had any much stronger opinion had I considered the picture more. My knowledge of geography around the right answer might not have helped me much even with a better starting guess. Even starting from guess 5, my closest but over 700 miles away, I might not have solved it. Guess 6 was a little better NS but worse EW, still within 800.

My first perfecto. And, if I remember correctly, the same issue that cause me to miss by 1 before: not being sure whether Ohio touched Michigan (it does) or if you have to go through Indiana (adding one extra state)

I might have, too. It’s a place I sometimes guess, and it occurred to me to try it today, but beyond “South Pacific” I don’t know much about its location. There are many other places that meet exactly the same definition. One of the few things I do know (or think I know) is that when Samoa (my 6th guess) was 761 miles away, it wouldn’t be American Samoa.
And yes, I just googled that for confirmation before posting, even though I was pretty sure of it
