Oh, I didn’t use it until my 5th guess.
Possibly because I thought it had been used already as an answer.
Having played through all the past wordles does change my strategy some in my 5th &6th guesses

I don’t know if my strategy needs to be rethought. I like starting with the word STRAP because it contains highly common letters and can usually lead me somewhere. My second guess is usually something with any hits from word 1 but with at least two vowels that are not “A”. Today my 2nd word was PROUD. But today this quickly led me to the 1st two letters but I was just guessing after that. I was lucky to get it at 6.
I would say that if you are not repositioning letters in guess three, and only have two or fewer letters figured out, then go with all new letters to obtain new information.

I think this one might be my favorite example of that strategy BARELY working.

I think guess #4 used one of the known letters out of position, but included four other new letters.
This is pretty close to what I do. Today is an example: my first 3 guesses were all unique letters. I got just enough info to guess it on #4

I personally would use an E somewhere in the first 2 guesses. Worked for me so far.
I think instead of focusing on common consonants, you should try to hone in on the vowels early on, while using a couple of common consonants. I used to start with BEAUT, and if everything misses, go with NOISY, but now I start with AROSE, and if everything misses go with JUICY or BUILD. ADIEU is tempting, too, but I’ve never started with it.

Another thought that I had is that while I like Strap as my first word, maybe the second guess should always be a different word (but the same for every puzzle) that also has very common letters but none of the letters in STRAP. Maybe Cloud? I’m going to try that a few times. First two words Strap and Cloud

I vary my strategy a little depending on hits from my first word, but if I don’t get many my current word choices are:
RESIN, or SIREN, RINSE, REINS
LOATH
DUMPY
I pick a different first word every day, and I’m not trying to optimize on the first pick, but the second definitely influenced by the first, similar to what DeepPurple does. But not quite.
I’m usually trying to eliminate letters more than trying to find the right ones.
Starting to work on the archive now. 5 for 5 so far, but had a really tough time with HUMPH

These are my stats. Ignore the first line though. That’s from the first time I used this link and I was seeing if it was the same puzzle I’d already solved.
So my average is 4. Which is … average

I normally start with BOUGH
This is mostly because I have been burned by U-G-H way to many times.
If If I do not get any yellows, then I normally use FAIRY
If I get a green hit on H then I almost always guess FEAST, as I think the S-T gives a lot of useful information.
If I get any hits on my first guess, then I include them in the second guess in a new position.
