My go to first word has been BEAUT. I generally go directly after it (rather than using a completely novel 2nd and 3rd word). If I’m still floundering after 3 turns, then I will go completely novel on the 4th to eliminate more possibilities.
Appreciate the analysis above. I do figuring out the vowels first is optimal, and thus using 3 on the first turn is a strong opening. AROSE may be a strong option using the top 5 letters. Replacing B and U with O and R seems pretty strong.
Re: today’s puzzle. Spoilers ahead. Started with AROSE this morning and got 1 yellow! Rough start. Figured that a good second pair word is BUILD. Just 1 green! But then I figured it almost had to be xOIxx, and looking at the remaining letters got it on my next turn.

My first word is always whatever comes to mind. I’ve even done the blasphemous choice of picking a first word with a repeating letter at least once. Don’t think I’ve used the same first word twice in my 14 official games

My first word is always RATES because actuary. Got today’s in 3 tries - a friend of mine took 4 tries because she guessed JOINT on the third. I guessed correctly because I don’t do drugs
