That’s a tough Vancouver time zone schedule. A high quality match.
I am holidaying in Ontario currently so it was not as brutal timewise.
Shoddy performance by the old ladies whom the coach felt he had to play (IMO). Next coach might not be such a wimp.
Rapinoe was unusual in that normally when you’re aging out you lose speed and have trouble keeping up in general play but you make up for it in set pieces such as free kicks or penalty kicks, making use of all your experience. She sucked at the latter.
Canada would have survived Group stage if their aging superstar Christine Sinclair had not missed her PK against Nigeria. She should have moved on by now but no one would ask her to.
So was the schedule made expecting the US to win their group? I noticed the Netherlands game was at a better time for USA timezones and their next one too.
Probably. Not sure when the Group of 16 matches’ times were determined, but probably after the draw.
Either way, there is this thing called TiVo that is currently being pushed out of existence for being too good.
Yeah, that is how I watch it (though DTV rather than TiVo). Fox has them on Replay as well so you can watch the full matches online later as well. Not sure whether you would be able to delay start or if you have to wait for it to complete before it gets posted to their site. I know with Amazon Prime’s Thursday night football you could watch from the beginning after the game started. Not sure how many of the streamers do that.
Peacock has them on replay too, plus you get to practice your Spanish at the same time as you watch a game. But replay isn’t available until about 30 minutes after live broadcast ends, and every once in a while not at all (e.g., they didn’t have replay of the swimming world championships the day that O’Callaghan broke the 200m WR).
What an unpatriotic piece of shit, gloating about America losing. Probably did the same thing about Vietnam when he got 4F’d out of going.
How about YOU shut up and dribble from the corner of your mouth, you old, fucking fraud and traitor to the Constitution.
The worst people in the world have been waiting four years to gloat whenever the USWNT loses.
This guy never won anything and has the gall to come for the team that has?

Without any context about Alexi Lalas’ positions, it isn’t clearly gloating. Trump, sure, no argument. You will note that AL doesn’t attribute the loss to taking positions. He is correct that the USWNT will lose the amplification of their message if they fail to win in the long run. A significant number of journalists and even sports commentators/journalists haven’t won a championship. Doesn’t mean their opinions are invalid. And having won doesn’t mean opinions are without challenge.
He’s wrong on so many levels, though.
First, what team, in any sport, stays relevant without winning? Even the USMNT has a standard to meet, even if it’s lower. If they stop qualifying for the WC, winning regional trophies, or seeming to make progress, they’ll lose relevance, too. So the idea that the USWNT’s stances on social issues make them different in that regard is crap.
Second, the people who are upset about the USWNT’s stances on social issues never cared about the USWNT in the first place. Sure, they might have otherwise tuned in for the WC final, but they’re not buying jerseys, going to games, or deigning to watch a semi-final.
The fact that Alexi decides to go this route with his commentary tells you a lot about where he stands.
It’s a shame that reasonable and substantive criticism about this edition of the team and the direction of the program in general has been drowned out by morons.
And in case you need more context about Alexi:
So basically, you are saying he’s right, just that it doesn’t make USNWT unique in that manner. I agree with you qualifier, but on the surface, I don’t see why he is saying it is any different.
Are you saying all soccer fans are progressive? That the message the team is trying to put out is preaching to the choir? That they aren’t going to reach anyone who thinks differently? Then what is the point?
Personally I think a lot of soccer moms have a conservative bias. I kinda thought that was part of the term. YMMV.
I really don’t care a whole lot because I am not more than a casual fan. I listened on radio and rooted for us when my family was travelling during 2015. I watched a little in 2019. I am not enough of a fan to watch time zone shifted games because it is not a priority to me. As far as drowned out by morons, it is only drowned out if you listen.
It is strange for Americans to gloat over their team losing.
It is not strange though for the rest of the world as it shows how far women’s soccer has advanced outside of the USA.
I’m using the American meaning of “the world.”
Well, you could also be saying we’re #1 in the worst people category for the world. USA! USA!
Not really, once you accept that the US is now functionally at least two countries with a dysfunctional common top-level government.

Should make for a good game against England coming up.
