Women's Basketball Thread

Sorry to say, but your sport isn’t i9mportant enough for independent arbiters (I think that is what referees are, but…) of every single foul, or, just the one specific foul you had a problem with.

Don’t let the game get too close that you might lose on possible “human error.” That is advice for every single sport or game ever. Maybe you are new to competition?

More shitty comments, just like the men do, so yay equality!?

“It just doesn’t feel right that you lose a series with that level of discrepancy,” she said. “We don’t have a team that whines and complains and all that stuff. Sometimes, it probably hurts us. Maybe being a little more, I don’t know, something. But (ED: here comes the whining and complaining) you have a star player like Phee that just – I don’t get it. I don’t get how she can be held and go to the basket and get hit, and then a marginal, at best, at best, sends their best player to the free throw line. I mean, that’s tough. It’s tough to swallow.”

Officiating, it’s not that hard,” Reeve said. “When someone is being held, be consistent. If you don’t want to call it a hold at one end, don’t call it at the other. Be consistent. Every team asks for that. Sandy asked for that last game. Three of the games in this series, we’re talking about the same damn thing.”

Meh. Coaching is not that hard. Just blame the referees when you lose.

Foul calls in basketball are always a crapshoot. You’d figure basketball players/coaches would know this.

Saying this is a bit like saying “to make a long story short”. It is a falsehood.

So what is the over/under on her fine? Complaining about the refs usually is going to get you fined. And claiming the refs gave the game to your opponent is probably going to increase that fine, especially for the head coach. But to say that they stole the title from you has to cause the fine to be large enough that no other player or coach would ever even consider going there. Maybe a fine for the coach and the team?

What is the ratio of WNBA Dollars to Schrute Bucks?

Cailin Clark named Time Magazines Athlete of the Year

And let the debate begin.

Eh. Don’t have to be the best (see: Trump). Just move the news needle. And she did that. She raised WNBA attendance and viewership. She made people believe that the sport was worth watching, which is a miracle in itself. Even the men can’t do that in their “3-point or dunk” sport.

Let’s not forget the “no-look pass” . . .

I’m not sure else who it could be. Maybe if Shohei had a strong playoffs / world series there would be a strong case.

I figure there are some Olympian’s who are also deserving.

Any of them move the news needle?

Not in the US

Headline should have read: Attractive Woman Chooses To Wear Revealing Outfit, Not Date Critics

Better yet: There shouldn’t have been a headline at all.

It’s gross that women who are widely considered physically attractive are still not allowed to be known primarily for their profession or even their personality, rather than just their looks or sexual potential or whatever. “But it’s too revealing” – then don’t look; it’s not as if she gon’ date you anyway. :man_tipping_hand:t2:

You can advocate for modesty as a virtue without being a skeez who can’t let adults make their own personal decisions.

I changed the title, since there isn’t enough interest for three separate threads (college, pro, USA).

Q: Will she keep the “old girl’s club” mentality, or will there be legitimate open tryouts, even for WNBA rookies who “don’t know their place”?

the social media algorithms seem to think i am 100000% interested in all things caitlin clark (i like her and her game and think the attention she draws can be great but not at the lowest common denominator versions)
and
also 100000% in all things dismissive of angel reese. I’m not, i like her game and think she is good enough to bring positive attention to the game. am not intersted in the awful race-fueled dislike.
as dtnf would say, facebook is a toilet
