I hope I never experience the joy of bunk desks.
Visiting home office, because we’re getting a free lunch. Mostly for the face-time with my more in-person coworkers, but the lunch is a good excuse. Also, in the evening, I’ll see some friends in this cross-state area who I haven’t seen in 7 years.
Overall though, I’m sitting in the office before anybody’s here and.. this part is productive at least. I’ll get my work done before work starts, then socialize; already craving my home office. Standing desk perhaps walking on the treadmill, with a cat tucked across my shoulders, coffee on its warmer and lo-fi music gently thrumming, in pajama pants.
This is why i retired rather than returning to the office. If I’d had my own space, i would have kept working.
(Okay, I’ve unretired, but it’s a wfh job.)

Okay, im in the office for a few days, and the worst part of it is I can’t disappear to the toilet for a 30 minute break like I can when I work remotely. People sitting next to me watch me get up and leave my laptop! They’ll notice it took a long time to return! Ugh.
That’s why you make your outlook calendar settings pretty private and schedule many “touch bases” and “coffee chats” with no one.

UK seems to be leading the pack so far in WFH adoption
The push to be back into the office has been fairly limited in scope as WFH is now seen as a statutory right given the lateat employment rights act legislation.
I love that they feel that they have to have a color-coded key to let you know which bar is the biggest.

While that is interesting, I’m trying to figure out if the UK data comes from the Source noted with red while the rest of the data comes from the Dataset noted in blue?
Not a fan of using colors, especially the same colors, when they don’t mean the same things.

It looks like they have two legends. Quite confusing.
The New York Fed blames Gen Z unemployment more on remote work than AI.

Remote work did allow some companies to let go of some of the workers without firing them. There were cases where people took on positions with the understanding that they were fully remote and then the company decided that everyone must come in three or four days a week, even if the office was hundreds of miles away.
On the flip side, if remote work is responsible for weak entry-level hiring, then AI is even worse than we thought at replacing jobs.

What I am noticing so far:
People work from 9am to 5pm on the dot when they go into the office. They set their away message as soon as they leave.
When they WFH, this not the case as they will spread their hours throughout the day.
I expect this trend to continue if they keep pushing RTO further.
