Yup. Probably would be asked to go in on Saturday.
And then, Sunday, too.
Spoiler alert: gets with Jennifer Aniston at the end.

I will end up in the office, but it wonāt be rushed, not yet and probably many months away.
I do my work easily at home, and would prefer to never go back except for maybe occasional face to face meetings.
As retirement approaches in 7-10 years, I could be tempted to take something different and lower-paying in order to work remotely 95+%.
lol, I suspect I am 7-10 years closer to retirement than you.
Also described as a movie about an actuary and yet he tries to sell life insurance for a living
I wonder what the actuarials were on him doing a good job of it.
A calendar reminder just popped up for me.
āEvery year til 2025 ā remind xxxx about her prediction that weād be doing work from home within 5 years (told me on 1/3/2020)ā
Yeah, I just reminded her and a few other people who had heard that prediction.
Well, she was right, but not exactly for the right reason.
I dont think my department would have been primarily wfh in my lifetime if not for the pandemic. Pre-covid, I didnt think it was possible with all our paper files which we were very resistant to changing. It has been proven to be very possible though.
We actually moved to mostly electronic in 2020 pre-pandemic which helped our transition a LOT.
things iām gonna need when iām back in the office -
pjās optional. no more of this ābusiness casualā nonsense. iām used to all pjās all the time AND I DONāT WANNA CHANGE!
imma need a digital piano in my office.
kthx
Iāve been electronic for a couple of decades, but I was still tied to one location; i.e I self-hosted our email and could only read email on my one PC.
early 2019 or so I showed up to an appointment with a business mentor. Mentor shows up, tells me that I got the day wrong and didnāt I get his email? No, because I was at the meeting location, not at my desk where I can read email. Worse, this was a meeting with a business incubator mentor, for fintech startups, so no excuse. I looked pretty foolish.
I went home and took everything about our business 100% location agnostic. Now emails, documents, information, even phones, I can set up shop on any computer at any location as can anybody I work with.
Did this pre-covid, so it wasnāt a big deal for me to pack up the office and come home. Iām really happy with the results.
If my kids were in school and I could leave my house for things I enjoy, I could be WFH maybe 50% of the time. Not more than that, though. I need the coffee walks, the face time, the quiet space, and the routines that are separate from my home.
I enjoy WFH a lot more than I used to, now that I have the right setup. And you canāt beat taking a nap over lunch or watching tv on a slow day. But I havenāt experienced WFH without crushing stress in my life (schooling, quarantining) so itās really difficult to know for sure. Who knows, maybe I would love it.
I do hope it will make moving companies easier for me down the road. We canāt relo because of custody arrangements and options are limited in my city. If WFH becomes more acceptable for actuaries because of all this, I could be on board with that if I ever need to move on from my current company.
This is something Iāve learned, and can replace at WFH. I specifically look to get out of the house and interact. Iām fortunate in that my SO is wfh as well, so weāre both home. Still, Iāll get out and go to the store for something every other day or so. Pre-covid we would go out for lunch once a week. Or Iāll take breaks and do stuff around the house like cut the lawn or shovel snow. I spend a lot of time at the desk, but take breaks whenever I feel like it.
what an extrovert
I worked from home part time before covid. Back then i arranged lunch dates with friends near my home ā other people working from home near me, and non work friends.
I look forward to doing that again someday.
I mean, I have not updated my log of what other people are wearing on their feet for 10 months now!
Agreed, I can be work at home and then be at home but away from work. Go for a neighborhood walk, quick grocery trip, make a meal, sexā¦
At work I am getting my work done and even though I can have down time at work, I still feel a bit imprisoned and my options are more limited than if I were at home.
Return date was 4/4, now pushed back to 7/6 - the day after the Fourth of July which is on 7/5 this year.
My company recently mentioned they plan to start planning to return to the office when the numbers come down more sufficientlyā¦ so I guess Iām WFH for a bit
I would guess a lot of executives are also enjoying WFH and donāt want anyone forced to come back. I have no clue what our setup will be moving forward, but my guess is it will be more optional and more casual.
[nitpick]No, the Fourth of July is definitionally 7/4 every year. Your employerās observance of the Independence Day holiday might be 7/5 this year though.[/nitpick]
