I have a similar setup, although usually use the laptop as a third monitor. I have a webcam mounted to the top of my middle monitor. Most calls don’t involved video but I think it’s useful to be on video for some calls but am not a fan of the no eye contact issue.
I went through my closet last spring and cleared out 80% of my wardrobe (including clothes I wasn’t wearing pre-COVID) and donated them to a charity my wife’s mother’s friend works at, giving clothing to lower income people. Apparently they were all given away within a week.
We would normally take a trip to michigan or if we were going, florida and I’d do a burst of clothes shopping annually. Haven’t been to the US in 2+ years of course, and I’m really not sure when we’ll return. My clothes are getting threadbare. If this lasts much longer I’m going to be sitting here looking like a hobo.
Occurred to me, eventually may “go back” to the office in a blue moon if I need to print something.
Am I the only person who bought WFH clothes? That first spring/summer I bought the most comfy dress (very casual) and I liked it so well I bought 2 more. I mostly bought the first one to help out the lady who was selling, and then I liked it. Also that year I bought shorts bc we actually went to a family reunion in the summer and my old shorts were just—embarrassing. And I got yoga pants in capri length. 3 season pants for the WFH life. Then last fall I got full length yoga pants. I am replacing all the old stretched out yoga pants I had for like 15 years.
When I returned to the office 2 days a week they said we could wear jeans all the time but I got hiking pants that just look like regular pants bc I fell in love with Duluth and then I had to get new shirts to go with them.
Then I got some fleece lined hiking pants this year in case I want to hike or even walk in the winter. I haven’t done that but they’ve been nice to have for some of our ridiculously cold weather.
I thought I would buy a dress this spring for a few functions (like a nice dress, not the super casual ones I bought for WFH) but then I remembered I have one that should work just fine.
Most likely you are. I pretty much wear the same set of t-shirts and can choose from a few polo shirts for the times I have to be on camera.
This is what got me into the office today, a day I had very few meetings (I prefer to be in the office for meetings because of the whole on camera thing…I still have to be on camera in the office, but it’s not AS draining for me because I don’t feel like it’s an invasion into my personal life). Had to print out about 500 pages of exam related stuff…at least it’s work related (ish).
Our management expressed concerns about letting people print things at home, given the risk of having confidential data lying around the house (as opposed to an office where it’s theoretically more secure). I don’t think I’ve printed a single work-related item in at least 2 years.
Pretty sure work printers are a job benefit for personal use with incidental business uses.
Exactly, which means that not everyone is looking into the camera during the entire meeting unless it’s positioned perfectly. That means I have to cut down on “multitasking” during meetings since people notice when I’m not focused.
Ya’ll going to jail. But also it’s the only thing about going into an office I miss. Now I have to walk to Fedex whenever I want something printed. struggle is real
Not necessarily, when I’ve shown stuff to my boss it’s easier to discuss the printout than to share the screen, especially if he’s going to scribble notes on it. But as for personal stuff, I’ve printed way more in the office than at home.
12/20 - 6/21 I was in the office 3 times total. in each case it was to print something (work related).
Home printers rock. Just saying.
I print like 2 things a year. So definitely not worth buying one
I think my stay at home clothes were just old and depressing. And I could afford to buy better uber casual clothes when I didn’t have to constantly update my business casual stuff.

If this lasts much longer I’m going to be sitting here looking like a hobo.
Edna will fix your hobo suit.

I have a home printer. Bought one about a year ago. I have spooling issues with it for my work Have to restart the printer, clear the spool, then I can print maybe two documents. Also been through several color print cartridges already. Because grey is a combo of the colors!! Not just a lighter black!!
This is why I have our default setting to print in black and white, because it kills me to use color cartridges for the 90% of things I’m printing that don’t actually need color ink…
I do that. That does not help for my printer. Not sure why, either.
