As of today my state eligibility is 55+, certain essential workers, some health conditions, and caregivers. I am aware that a lot of people just claim to be a caregiver to jump the line to get a shot. I am still waiting my turn.
My state just decided to open it to all adults Thursday. I’ll start trying to get an appt now.
Just got my first jab. Appointments on the KS side of KC are impossible to get since they’ve opened it to more people. We went over to MO and it was still hard to get in. I followed the Twitter vaccine finder and jumped when a spot opened up. You have to be fast!
Because they aren’t in convenient locations? Or because it’s hard to get an appointment? I don’t know about Kansas, but the limiting factor here is the availability of vaccines, not of sites. They opened an enormous site near me that has the capacity to administer 5000 jabs per day, but they are only taking ~1500 appointments per day, because that’s how much vaccine they have. The hospitals and universities were giving jabs early in the vaccine rollout, but the state has re-allocated vaccine to state-controlled sites, and those hospitals and universities have nearly closed their vaccination programs – due to lack of vaccine, not lack of facilities. The state easily has twice as much capacity to administer vaccine as it has vaccine to administer. And that’s what makes it hard to get an appointment here, not lack of sites.
Hope so. I heard gossip that the flow of vaccine may double in sometime in April, and that would probably switch my state from “most of us can’t get it” to “anyone who wants it can” within a month or three.
well since KS is the geometric center of the contiguous US it would make sense that people in other states that can’t vaccines would trend towards KS, therefore overloading there distribution systems
Hit the Walmart site (they are a federal program provider) at midnight local time exactly, and got my wife an appointment 1 week out at the nearest Walmart. Most of the time slots were already filled, so there were a number of folks using the same strategy, 48 hrs after eligibility group 1c and 55+ opened in AL. If you are having trouble getting an appointment, use this strategy. She is on the “call me back when I can schedule” lists at our county and a nearby hospital. It would be harder to remove her from the lists than just wait until they call and say “already got it”.
My only side effect so far from Pfizer is a sore arm at shot location, similar to flu vaccination. No pain while not using muscle, slight pain when using. I have been able to continue my regular moderate cardio routine without a problem.
Appointment scheduled for tomorrow, about an hour after my spouse’s second dose, so I’m hoping they will just give me mine when we go for the first appointment. It’s all drive-thru, so doing an extra jab on the other side of the car an hour early hopefully won’t be an issue.
I had a drive-thru at a mass vac site, and when I showed up 15 mins early, they said they didn’t care as long as it was today. Maybe yours will be the same.
It may be lack of vaccines. Someone who claims to know said that it’s not lack of vaccines, it’s an unwillingness to be efficient about getting them in arms. But who knows.
I recently put myself on a waiting list for for a big site, and she said if they call, it will be about 3PM and I can go anytime from then until when they close.
Yeah, I think they are giving appointment times to spread out when people arrive, but aren’t paying much attention to it, other than “right person, right day.”
I found out yesterday that (at least in my location) you can call the Walmart and get put on a “end of day list”. Then mid-late afternoon when they know if/how many excess vaccines they have they go down the list and call people. You have to answer your phone and confirm you can make it as they don’t leave messages.
