It would be an interesting exercise if reporting as a smoker for the vaccine automatically put on :qunq:the list:qunq: as a smoker for health & life insurance.
When I worked in Disability Income and people reported an income greater than what all records indicated, my typical answer was “If you lie to the IRS, you need to tell the same lie to us”
Does Pot count? Asking for a friend.
Actually not asking for a friend, it’s legal in my state, but I honestly don’t use. But, if it made me eligible, I’d start.
girl, START
Just got my mom an appointment for today. It’s amazing how un-tech-savvy she is. It took me less than 5 minutes. She couldn’t find an appointment near where she lives most of the time, she’s here at their other house this week for doctor visits and to help me with the landscaping, and will be back here in 3 weeks for more landscaping, so can get both doses.
i know someone who just walked into a pharmacy today, asked for vaccine, got it. not eligible at all. they are really doing a shitty job of opening this up for everyone and they have more vaccine than they can use at this point in some places.
not sure. i’d imagine that pot can’t possibly be any better than cigarettes if you’re smoking it.
I’ve heard from a few different sources that a vial of vaccine is supposed to have, say, 10 doses in it, but often they can get 11 or 12 out of it. If they’re scheduling 10 appointments for that vial, but end up with 11 or 12, maybe that’s part of why there are extra doses? In addition to cancellations or whatever.
In my area, appointments are booked solid this week, but I know of a few people who’ve been able to get extra doses by asking at the end of the day. Probably a combination of reasons.
Huh, no appointment, no nothing?
Was it an end-of-the-day thing?
My sister says that is somewhat common at their pharmacy. That is they get an “extra dose” sometimes. That’s how my son wound up getting vaccinated.
i think it’s the uncertainty in the dose, combined with the expiration of the vaccine.
one the one hand, it makes sense and is ethical as an individual decision. the vaccine should always be used.
on the other hand, it represents a system that gives and advantage to those with the flexibility to get a vaccine at a moments’ notice.
This doctor was fired for giving away unused doses. According to the story:
…
The officials maintained that he had violated protocol and should have returned the remaining doses to the office or thrown them away, the doctor recalled. He also said that one of the officials startled him by questioning the lack of “equity” among those he had vaccinated.
“Are you suggesting that there were too many Indian names in that group?” Dr. Gokal said he asked.
Exactly, he said he was told.
…
So assuming that detail is right (which maybe it isn’t), this illustrates what it takes to get us to take “equity” seriously, I guess.
she looked online, saw there were way too many available appointments, but she isn’t eligible, so she went to the site and just asked. based on this it seems they aren’t filling the slots and possibly vaccine is going to waste to me. this tells me they need to open it up to everyone ASAP in areas where this is happening.
nope, just happened today.
I assume that is to make sure there are 10 doses.
Like a baker’s dozen, in a way.
Wow.
Do you know if she spent a ton of time looking? Or if that’s common? Or if she just got lucky?
I’ve heard there are some states where they are running out of people who want to be vaccinated, but I didn’t think NY would be one of them.
oh, this is not new york. it’s washington state. she looked at the close by sites in her area to see way too many available slots. i don’t think she spent a ton of time, just kept seeing that there were a lot of appointments and finally just went on over there to see if she can get in.
in new york specifically, they were giving out vaccine to anyone who shows up at wagner high school on staten island i heard at some point, but that’s staten island. there was no way i was going to staten island for that.
No she says most times it is 10 doses but sometimes they get more. But it’s probably to ensure there isn’t a batch with only 9 doses.
oh. I wonder who is eligible there…
I agree that if the pharmacies can’t book all the appointments, they should be opening to more people.
Also, at some point the feds should be directing shipments of vaccine based on demand, not just on number of people. But we probably aren’t there, yet.

I agree it should be used. Throwing does no one any good.

Is there a possibility he held back doses or half doses so that he could vaccinate his friends and family?
