As I’m working as my sister’s unofficial broker, I find ways to add a few feet to the kitchens I see to turn them from sucktitude to THE BEST KITCHEN IN ALL OF MANHATTAN!
i mean, you would all still think it sucks, but manhattan standards are weird.
Is it that most people who live in Manhattan eat out or get delivery so that they don’t really need a good kitchen? Or maybe the opposite, the kitchens suck so they eat out or order in? O knew a guy who lived in Hell’s kitchen for 5 or 6 years and said he never made a meal. I think he shared a 600 square foot apartment with another guy.
I think that was more like the Manhattan of the days of yore. Now people want a kitchen, but they can’t get a kitchen, so the apartments with actual decent kitchens sell fast.
but yeah, I suppose people do eat out and order in a lot too.
Trailers in the po probably have better kitchens than many Manhattan apartments.

i had a decent kitchen when I lived in Manhattan. No dishwasher, and no space for one. But all the other appliances were normal and functional. There was even room for my stand mixer.
My SIL re-did her kitchen, at great cost, and I asked her some question about its functionality (I forget what) and she laughed, and told me she never cooked, and only cared what it looked like. And pointed to the drawer full of take-out menus. “That’s my real kitchen”, she said. (My brother never cooked, either, but she’s the one who was in charge of the remodel, and she’s the one who showed it off to me.)
Do you really even need a kitchen? It’s Manhattan, the US capital of takeout
Manhattan doesn’t have places that will do your laundry for you? With pick-up and delivery? Just pay by the pound?
they might. in one of my apartments, there was pick-up in the lobby for a specific place. did it a few times, but then stopped when we got someone else’s socks or something. they folded things all nice.
not sure about pick-up at other places. possibly, yes. i’ve just done my own laundry in the basement of my buildings since then.
also, if it isn’t a doorman building, the pick up and drop off won’t be totally convenient.
the super awesome apartment my sister was 2nd in line for due to someone else giving an all cash offer just went into contract. i kept refreshing it. ao fan sad 
that one had a great kitchen. it went incredibly fast.
Former NYC resident. Buying groceries sux there. No way a car makes sense. Cabs/Uber? Really?
Real life is a quick stop at the neighborhood bodega for tonight’s dinner. No filling up cabinets with stuff, no big honkin refrigerator to fill. Take out a lot. At least where I worked, getting home before 8 was a “never gonna happen”
Different lifestyle, for sure.
parking is a nightmare in NYC.
I remember my ex had to constantly track when to move his car in the morning.
Groceries didn’t seem as bad as he lived within walking distance to (one of) the whole foods on UWS.

That’s insane… You all need to move to the Po and just WFH. $270k for a 1700 sqft house + garage + basement, with a fenced-in 1 acre property. I can see 3 nearby homes from the driveway.
I’ve considered selling our house and renting until the market cools down a bit.
