Where are you planning on travelling this year?

She might not have any finished yet!

Inconceivable

I quilted for 6 hours today, was one of the fastest of the group. I’m sitting at a table with three sisters who I would guess are in their 60’s-70’s and they all hate each other. Whenever one of them leaves the table, the other two complain about how terrible she is and how she is ruining this trip for them (but they all say it about all the others). They didn’t even come back after lunch.

We have another two hours of designated class time, before we get to Juneau. Then we have six more hours on Wednesday. I hope to finish the quilt top I’m working on now, might not even open the other kit until I get home, it’s easier to take back while it’s all nicely folded and packed up.

Sounds like a great trip!

Sounds like some serious quilting going on.

I am not sure what itinerary you are following but if you are doing the Inside Passage at some point during the trip I would suggest taking in the view as much as possible. We took BC Ferries through the Inside Passage some years ago and the views were mesmerizing. It is not just Alaska that provides great scenery.

If you stop in Victoria on the way back there is no need to book a land tour. Just wander around its lovely harbour. There is not much to see in stops such as Haines and Skagway but they have beautiful settings.

One of my old roommates grew up on Maui, so when I’d visited 25-ish years ago, we drove out towards Hana to see his grandmother, whose house was almost like a treehouse. Not only did he make me drive all the way to Hana, he had me return via the road on the backside, the one you’re not supposed to take a rental car on. (The local opinion was it’s better to be hard on a rental car vs. your own.) While it was scenic, some of the road was unpaved and hugged cliffs, and the situation wasn’t helped by him and his cousin wondering aloud if the road was washed out. I was a bit traumatized after that. Now if there was a boat to Hana…

The road is still like that. I remember thinking the first bit was pretty wild with sharp turns and one lane bridges. Then the pavement gets worse and worse. Then you’re on gravel, which quickly becomes washboard gravel. With some potholes. You’re plodding along at 12mph and it feels like the lug nuts are going to come loose.

My husband was feeling very uncertain about this cruise. Typically when we go on vacation, I’m the one who likes to relax in the hotel as long as possible while he sightsees. Today we had our first stop, in Juneau, and went whale watching. He thought it was nice, but admitted he has really enjoyed relaxing on the cruise ship and preferred that to any excursions. That will have to be a next time thing, because we have three more excursions planned.

It’s a relief that he enjoys cruises though, because maybe we can do them every few years. Lots of options…

Going to France next week, mainly to visit hubby’s family. I’m hoping the Olympic cauldron and rings(but not the crowd) will still be in Paris so we can see them.

Booked a lake house next week. Just hanging out.

The Paralympics are August 28 - September 8, also in Paris.

I don’t know if they use the same cauldron … I assume they do?

I think they extinguish it as part of the closing ceremony though, so August 12 - 27 it probably won’t be lit. But likely still there unless there’s something different for the Paralympics. Not positive… report back!

Off to the UK shortly for annual September visit to see our daughter and family. Nothing much planned in London except a Premier League match with my SIL and meeting a few old work colleagues.

After two weeks staying at my SIL’s mother’s place in Peckham (close to our daughter’s place) we will train and bus to the Lake District. Was able to book a good deal on a country house stay near Keswick as apparently the local tourist trade has been slow this year compared to Continental Europe.

:fearful:
Wow - hope everything goes okay for him.

That must be depressing. Bad enough when it happens much later in life.

My wife has just informed me that she wants to go rock hunting in Botswana: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDObVBXyK6E

Mulling over a birthday/anniversary trip for my wife & little one next year during school holidays in Easter.

Been dying to explore a bit more of South America, and we have a 7 day window were we could go to Peru, and do the Lima - Cusco - Machu Picchu Circuit.

Wife has never done it (surprisingly) so its something we could all end up doing together for the first time.
