That reminds me of a song (Budapest by George Ezra) I’ve been listening to repeatedly after hearing it in Italy. I’m only 11 years behind the times.
Or, depending how you plan to get around, Budapest By Blimp by Thomas Dolby.
I “found” this song in the last year or two.

With all the stuff going on I’m seeing a fair bit of ‘hey Canadians, travel here in Canada’ and there’s a couple places I’d like to hit up this year on the East Coast.
I’d love to hit PEI for a couple of days, just to mange le lobster.
And I found out that New Brunswick apparently has outstanding ‘striper’ bass fishing. I’ve heard some American friends talk about fishing for stripers, I had no idea until recently that they had them in Canada. An ad for New Brunswick travel educated me otherwise. Love to try fishing for them.
Both of those would require probably more vaca time than I’m going to have this year though.
I have been investigating Canadian hiking trip possibilities and Labrador has an interesting one.
Reminds me a bit of Hornstrandir in Iceland.
They seem to be coming north as a result of climate change. They were off Labrador a few years ago.
I’ve heard you need someone with you watching for polar bears.
ETA: you could also look at the East Coast Trail.
Huh. Its a new fish for me. A buddy in nj mentioned that he fishes from shore and that they migrate up and down the coast.
Always a new.fish to.catch!
This Globe article today reminded me to give a promo to Mexico City as it does not get much attention as a tourist destination.
I used to go to Mexico City on business in the 1980s and found the city fascinating (air pollution fortunately was not bad on those visits which can be the biggest disincentive for a visit). You can do day trips to spectacular sights such as Teotihuacan but the city itself has sufficient attractions.
Because I enjoyed prior visits, we decided to fly through Mexico City on our way back from Costa Rica in January as it involved a 10 hour connection. The excellent subway system runs from the airport so for a few cents you can take the metro downtown. We spent the layover exploring Chapultepec Park. The locals were incredibly friendly and helpful with transit advice, etc.
Just mentioning this as others may enjoy this interesting city which is pretty convenient to many US cities. We were generally mistaken for Americans but Americans seem to be still well-received there despite Mr Trump.
LA Times has an article about Canadian gays spurning Palm Springs:
Ten friends — all gay men, like Climie — had planned to fly in from Toronto. They were going to trade the cold and rain for a hot desert weekend at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, where their beloved Lady Gaga is set to perform.
But because of tensions between Canada and President Trump, they canceled their plans.
“They were like, ‘No, Gaga is not worth it,’” said Climie, 39. “For a gaggle of gays to say Gaga is not worth it? You know there’s a problem.”’
The Coachella Valley has long been a favorite destination for Canadian snowbirds, who pump millions of dollars into the local economy every year. Now, its desert towns are bracing for a major financial blow as northerners — citing Trump’s aggression toward Canada — cancel flights, ditch hotel and Airbnb reservations and put their second homes up for sale.
So, AirBnB prices will be dropping? Hmm…
(Disclaimer: not a big fan of Palm Springs. Need to be a golfer or a tanner. Also, it outlawed the wearing of “T-back” bikinis in town, so one less tourist attraction.
)
I would like to go to an actuarial meeting later this year in the USA. Normally, I wouldn’t hesitate, but the current political climate is making me a smidge nervous.
Well, you could end up being sent to a detention center if you get the wrong border official.
Due process seems to have gone out the window in the US
What?
You don’t want to have El Salvador as part of your vacation plans?
Too soon?
In the grand scheme of things, the risk to most individuals is very low. Just dot your I’s, cross your it’s…and maybe out of an abundance of caution remove social media apps and biometric unlock functionality from your phone before entering.
That being said, in another venue I have flat out suggested to interested Europeans that if they want to “do something”, probably the most effective thing they could do is boycott all American goods and services, and encourage others to do so.
If you’re not going to attend, do it as a boycott, not because of perceived risk from the border guards.
Balding, bifocalled actuaries are prolly low on the watch list.
Whereas balding monocled actuaries raise all sorts of red flags.
Dude, they are going to say your starbucks tattoo is a gang thing. Adios!
