Where are you planning on travelling this year?

The first tropical destination I ever went to was Aruba in 1972. Got sunburned so badly that I needed physician attention and had to spend most of the vacation in the hotel room. So stupid. One thing I would do differently, if I could live my life over, would be to use more sun screen and spend less time in the sun. At least my kids and grandkids knew better. Much better awareness now than 50+ years ago.

too bad, because Aruba is one of the friendliest places I have been. Great restaurants and you can go anywhere on the Island, not stuck in a resort.

It was too bad. We befriended our company’s Aruban GA and he showed us around the island one day. That was the only day I left my hotel room after I got sunstroke.

2019 Alaska Cruise, New England and Canadian Cruise
2020 Mexico, Finger lakes

Puerto Rico? Was seeing flights for random dates in March from Seattle for $500. Lot of culture plus rain forests and beaches.

Unusual suggestion… Anchorage. Should have long days in March. I’m guessing cheap to visit, but would be driving involved and stuff might be closed.

Austin could be an alternative. Hopefully not too hot then. You’d likely have to drive to get around.

New Orleans/Louisiana? Mardi Gras will be over, so will be a bit quieter. Lots to see. Driving may or may not be required depending on what you want to do.

I kind of feel based on your son’s likes you should got to Chicago. Everything on his list but the Formula 1 racing should be available there.

Uh… the equinox is in March, so not especially long… pretty close to 12 hours, depending on when exactly you go. You’ll get the longest days in the second half of June.

Also I’ve not been to Alaska in spring but I dated a guy who grew up in AK and he said spring is the worst time to visit as everything is muddy from the snow melt. :woman_shrugging:

We’re headed to Alaska at the end of June for about 10 days. Going to Kenai and Denali. Went up there in I think 2007 for a wedding. Hope to actually see the peak of Denali this time - it was too cloudy last time.

I’m fleshing out plans for my summer vacation. It looks like I’m going to have a 45-minute connection when changing trains in Hamburg.

I am amused that there does appear to be a place to get hamburgers at the Hamburg Hauptbahnhof.

Sadly, that place is Burger King.

It might be a travel-free year for us. Our 10th anniversary is in March, and we had discussed going back to Europe (I really want him to see where I lived in England, and also I want to go back to Rome), but my husband really wants us to build up our savings more. So, maybe not!

You could split the difference and plan a nice domestic trip that is much cheaper.

We really liked Quebec City. It was reminiscent of Europe and we could drive there.

Or a trip to a Canadian destination. Yankee dollars currently go a long way here and we are not far away.
