Im getting a bit tired of fries too. I should never have perfected my recipe. Everyone loves fries, and how hard can it be? Well, its a good part of a.day in prep everytime.
I’d complain, but its an excuse to bring everyone together for a meal. So, what are you gonna do?
Well, at least you’ll be remembered long after you’re gone. “Great uncle SpaceLobster’s fries were to die for.”
For fish that I catch:
- walleye
- catfish
- crappie
- perch
- northern pike
- bluegill/sunfish
- bass
Also think grouper and haddock are very good and cod is decent but don’t have them enough to rank
I like many varieties of fish, but have rarely eaten perch as it’s not local here. It is tasty.
“Man! He would nearly kill himself trying to make 'em for us.”
I don’t catch bass anymore. Not fond of the taste, so I don’t even bother targetting them. Never had sunfish, i was always taught they were garbage fish, though I suspect theyr’e actually quite tasty.
also never had crappie, but one of the students I’ve introduced to fishing went a couple weeks ago for crappie. He’s got two in his freezer for me next time I’m in town, so I guess I’ll find out what they’re like shortly. I know americans are crazy about them, so I bet they’re good.
We have a fish back home that is variously called catfish or mudpout, and when I look at them online its’ not clear to me which one it is. But when I was young we used to go catch buckets of them at night. Great big bamboo poles like 12 feet long with a line tied on the end, bobber, and a worm on a hood. Throw the line out sit on the banks and wait until the bobber dove. Haven’t done that in too many decades. I’m home again in a couple/three weeks I’ll have to ask my uncle about them. Get the deets, might be worth a trip back home for that - iirc it was something we did in the spring.
I just had a look at bamboo poles for fishing online, and everything I see looks like bamboo fishing poles. What we used to use was seriously, nothing but a bamboo pole with a string tied on the end. No other embellishments, it wasn’t a rod so much as a stick.

A delicious and underrated fish is skate wing.
I don’t fish for them either but catch them while fishing for other fish especially pike. My grandparents love them so I do keep some for them.

Mudpout are called bullhead catfish around here. Never have ate them. We mostly catch channel catfish which are good eating. We also catch flathead catfish and blue catfish some but usually don’t eat those
