Now that AI is able to hack into a network, it’s just a matter of time before AI is advanced enough to put all networks at risk. The only solution would be to de-network all computers. This would mean the end of email, social media, the cloud, online news, message boards, and maybe the internet itself.
But this would bring back newspapers, TV, telephone companies, printers, and tons of administrators. It’ll be like the 60s again. Possible?
also the end of online banking and stock trading. We would need tons more of human tellers and brokers
this was the situation in the TV show Battlestar Galactica (2000 version). They had to de-network because of AI. They used landlines and PA systems to communicate.
We could still use Excel, but would have to save our work on disks and distribute them snail mail
When a technology makes something cheaper, the freed up resources get spent on other needs. In this case I would think the demand for security experts would rise and there would be more jobs for them.
Software engineers would also not be out of a job, it’s just that more of their time would be spent writing secure code or making sure the LLM output is secure.
at some point the cost to secure the network would outweigh its benefits, and that would be the tipping point
If that’s a concern, one option is to reduce the amount of code to a point where it’s maintainable. It’s kind of like how the bigger the house you have, the more you have to maintain it. But you wouldn’t get rid of houses altogether if that was your concern, you’d just buy a smaller house.
imagine a company with 1000 regular employees and 10,000 IT people running AI security 24/7. That doesnt sound feasible

I should re-adapt the house analogy. A gigantic house is one with a lot of doors and is much harder to guard. A small one with only one entryway would be much easier to defend. We have strong encryption which is practically unbreakable, so it’s the attack surface that’s the problem. So just don’t go nuts with the LLM by spewing out a huge mess of unmaintainable code.
It can be if AI made the regular jobs cheap, which is what the AI companies promise.
