oh. please, work in Concievable with a Wallace Shawn accent

My oldest daughter does the best accents so will leave it to her. She has actually met Wallace Shawn: my grandson was in a movie with him a few years ago so she had a coffee with him.

NEVER SAY INCONCIEVABLE to him

I started the audiobook of The Crying of Lot 49 by Pynchon. I know I’ve already read a couple of his (Inherent Vice and Bleeding Edge), but it was hard to concentrate enough at the start while in the car, so I put that one on hold for a little bit until when I can give it a proper listening. I instead started Murder in an Irish Village.

All Things Are Too Small, by Becca Rothfeld, essays on how minimalism (in lots of areas, such as physical objects, spirituality, love, etc.) seems to be robbing us of the joy of being human.

I picked up Terms of Endearment by Larry McMurtry a few days ago. Despite Lonesome Dove being my favorite book, I’ve never read anything else by him. About a quarter in and not really feeling this one.

Just finished Little Brother by Cory Doctorow. I enjoyed it, but it’s a bit unsettling to see the past’s fictional dystopia become alive in the present.

I don’t think that word means what you think it means.

The Devils - Joe Abercrombie. It’s a new world new series unrelated to his First Law World. Half way through and enjoying it a lot. If you’re enjoyed other Abecrombie works you probably won’t be disappointed.

I finally finished Huckleberry Finn. It was fine. I’m now starting Moon of the Crusted Snow by Waubgeshig Rice.

I finished Murder in an Irish Village. I was kind of annoyed right from the start to find out that the author is not from Ireland nor does she live in Ireland. And I did a quick search at the start for Kilbane, Co Cork, where the book is set, then heard she was inspired to create the town, which should come as some surprise to the people actually living in Kilbane, Co Cork, a real town. But as for the book, it was OK for a first book. A better editor could have made it a good book, I think.

I was planning on listening to Huck Finn next, which I’ve not read since HS, but it’s not come in yet. I’ll have to see what else I’ve got.

Wicked was further from the Musical than I expected. I wonder if it is closer to the original book, and musical is closer to the movie. I need to read the original now.

Next genre - Short Stories, Poetry and Plays - my own grouping.

going with a book of four plays by Edward Albee.
The Zoo Story, The Death of Bessie Smith, The Sandbox, The American Dream

I am not currently familiar with them

I finished Moon of the Crusted Snow. Next up is Carl’s Doomsday Scenario by Matt Dinniman.

Finished Terms of Endearment. For whatever reason, the blurb on the back cover contained a huge spoiler imo

Spoiler?

“Widowed and overprotective of her daughter, Aurora adapts at her own pace until life sends two enormous challenges her way: Emma’s hasty marriage and subsequent battle with cancer.”

The part I highlighted above doesn’t happen until the last 20 pages. Why give it away?

Next up: Fool’s Errand (book 1 of The Tawny Man trilogy) by Robin Hobb. I enjoyed The Farseer Trilogy when I read it many years ago.

Not that I recall at all. But it’s been a long while since I read the book and I haven’t brought myself to watch part 2 of the Wicked movie yet to see if it’s less of a train wreck then the first part.

I’ve read the Farseer Trilogy and the first book in The Liveship Traders series.I didn’t realize how many series took place in this universe when I first picked up Assassin’s Apprentice. But at least these series are complete unlike some other fantasy series…

I don’t like starting unfinished fantasy series for that exact reason (damn you Patrick Rothfus!)

I was planning to start book 1 of the Liveship Traders but it was checked out at the library so I went with Fool’s Errand. Unlike the Liveship series, this one is back to being narrated by Fitz, but 15 years later.

I’m finishing up an audiobook re-read of the trilogy this weekend…so good! And yes, so different than other fantasy series-es. I’ve read all 3 trilogies with Fitz (and the Fool), but not the 2 Liveship trilogies. @skysn93 - please let me know what you think compared to the Farseer trilogy.

next genre - Horror. going with Gerald’s Game by King
