Started up “the girl with the dragon tattoo.”
Seen the movie, so want to see what was cut for time.
Picked this up at the local brewery’s “library.” Trying to return by next Thursday, my usual drop-by day of the week.
American or Swedish?
I thought they were equally good
I just finished Nona the Ninth, the 3rd book in the Locked Tomb series (Gideon the Ninth, etc. Often described as lesbian necromancers in space, but in practice has much more depth). Not as good as the first two, but I continue to be impressed by the variety of styles the different books have.
The Danial Craig one. I’m not sure if I’ve seen the Swedish one.
Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros. I have to admit I’ve not been listening that closely.
I’m midway through Gideon
That sounds interesting! I read the Alignment Problem last year I think, a sort of history of AI, this would be a great follow-on.
I finished A Two-Spirit Journey by Ma-Nee Chacaby, with Mary Louisa Plummer on the weekend and started Jennie’s Boy by Wayne Johnston. I should wrap that up today or tomorrow, then I’ll be starting on The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman. I’ll keep going with the Canada Reads books but I’m still waiting on some of them from the library.
that’s been on my pile for too long. Need to get to it this year.
Finished Say Nothing about the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
Started a book of essays by Sean Wilsey titled More Curious
It was a very good read, highly recommend
Just warning you it is brutal. However the numerous beheadings, scalpings, skinnings and unprovoked shootings do help destroy any romanticism about the American frontier, which is presumably McCormack’s point.
Finished. Pretty good. Gonna take it back to the lending rack at the local brewery for someone else to enjoy.
Dare I look for the sequels?
Yes. Well worth the next two.
I’ll check the lending rack. But probably the official library as well.
I’m toying with rereading it for the details now that I know more about the later books. E.g., there are at least 2 very craftily worded sentences in the first chapter that refer to major future spoilers that seem unimportant at first glance. It’s a really carefully planned out series.
Continuing on my Murakami kick, finished Dance Dance Dance and picked up After Dark at the library yesterday. Also saw that Bill Gates has an autobiography that I grabbed as well.
Richard Rohmer is still alive (at 101) and his 1973 bestseller Ultimatum is in vogue here again because of Trump’s designs on Canada. Time to reread it and Exoneration.
next genre up Horror, The Lovely Bones - Sebold
wasn’t really thinking of it as horror, but it is listed that way. Also, i thought it was intended as young adult, but i believe i am wrong about that too
It’s very sad what Sebold did to Broadwater.
