We've always been at war with Venezuela

Thousands of Canadians go to Cuba this time of year providing much needed foreign currency. I wonder if that income source has been eroded. It also must be hard to provide foreigners with those services with the local shortages.

I have many fond memories of many visits to Cuba over the past 50 years. I hope it can emerge as a vibrant country again without undue pain on its people

I’m just pointing out that DC and Puerto Rico are both available…

Especially if Canada were to nickname the new province “Carney’s Glory” or similar.

It would be like stealing a baby’s name Trump had always intended to use.

Trump is a “carny” himself so he may think it was named after him.

There goes Tourism revenues. I don’t think its a good idea to strangle Cuba like this as you will create an economic and humanitarian catastrophe while the leaders will only be marginally affected. If anything, it will cause segments of the population to turn away from being pro-US.

I don’t see how unilaterally enacting the crash of a nation’s economy and the suffering/death of its citizens could possibly do anything but endear us to them.

They’ll love the freedom they get under a non-elected, US led dictatorship.

And what has Cuba done to justify any sort of reaction at all? And further, what have the cuban people done to the US to justify the coming crisis. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. People are going to die because of trump’s ego.

Just in case our PM is reading this, I’m all in on Canada stepping up in Cuba, even just to get them through to being minimally self sufficient.

One guess: Trump wanted a hotel built with his name on it. They refused. I have no evidence, except an attempt at reverse-engineering.

Feel like this is being pushed hard by Rubio

It’s not so much what they’ve done recently, as much as they’re “evil commies” and our Glorious Leader is entertaining ideas from hawkish conservatives to act.

Plus, if Cuba is liberated to capitalism, perhaps some brown people might take their families back there.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Fed Trump lost money when Cuba Nationalized and Donny has held a grudge ever since. I have no evidence to support this, just speculating.

Or equally likely Donny wants a piece of the action with prime beach front real estate for Mar-Lago-2 Cuban Dreams come true and squeezing them.

It’s simple. The USA has, since the 1950s, done everything it can to make sure any socialist regime fails. I am amazed that Cuba has survived as long as it has given all the obstacles the US put in its way.

Meanwhile all sorts of Americans point to Cuba as an example of the failure of communism.

I wonder why they have no money, food or oil. It’s complete mystery.

We’ve been going to Cuba since the 1970s and it is sad to see how it has deteriorated. It might have been fine if not for its giant neighbour to the north waging economic warfare on it all these decades. It is another victim of The Jakarta Method.

This is just stupid.

So what’s the alternative? Trump pays for them? He gets a public defender?

The federal court system has public defenders. In fact, justice Jackson spent a couple years as a public defender.
