Not really sure where I need to set my weight right now. I look at the scale at home, it seems like maybe Iâm dropping but then I go get it checked at the workout place and itâs barely moved.
Pisses me off, kind of soul-crushing, and Iâm trying to decide how hard do I need to work out to start really losing weight without it backfiring and resulting in injury or exhaustion or feeling like I want to eat more to make up for all that exercise?
Remember that losing weight is more about how much AND what you eat than working out. Working out makes your body healthier, but wonât necessarily help you lose weight. Hit the weights and sweat. And, modify your diet to more protein intake and fewer shitty carbs from boxes. Protein will help your muscles grow, which increases your base metabolic rate. That is what I preach. (Practice? Oh, I wish.)
Yeah, losing weight is definitely mostly about what you eat. Working out makes you healthier, feel better, and makes you less likely to be extremely overweight. It doesnât really move the needle otherwise. I second the stuff about protein. Certain foods cause people to overeat, such as diet soda, sugar, french fries, chocolate, etc. Certain foods cause people to eat less, such as protein, a no-sugar diet, warm drinks/soup, etc. Some foods are good for you and pretty neutral, like whole grains, dairy (unless you are part of the enormous group that doesnât eat dairy as an adult). Fruit works for some people and not for others. Vegetables are great but probably slightly overrated. Everyoneâs different but there are studies on this stuff too.

Right at the worst eating time of year. Plan to cut back on mashed popoâs and stuffing. Stick to turkey and ham. No dessert. But there will be alcohol consumed, as bro-in-law has too many full wine bottles.

Summary
I didnât bother to save my weight history from the ao before it got canned. I started making an effort to drop some weight in late 2018 when I hit 206. Was between 180-185 for most of 2020. Iâd look best around 160, but I am not willing yet to make the concessions on diet and exercise to get there. I like to eat well and I know what it takes to get me to 160. I think 170ish is a good goal for now.
Highest adult weight was 235 and lowest was 160. Both were over 20 years ago. Iâm 5â11"
I had gotten out of the habit of the weekly weigh in since the ao died, so starting over.
