Up, Down, Left, Right

For most of my driving in areas where toll roads are a viable route, the tolls aren’t expensive enough to justify the fuss of shunpiking them, given the potential alternatives.

That still holds true for trips to metro NYC, even though the bridge and tunnel tolls become more meaningful.

However, for my upcoming trip to Pennsylvania, where tolls could be $40-$55 each way…I’ll be interested in how much time it’ll cost to avoid them

What would be a really cool feature is if you could specify a value for your time, so that could be factored into the route-finding algorithm.

Add in features like consideration of fuel consumption / costs, and perhaps a feature to specify a “I don’t like this way; surcharge this stretch of road / this neighborhood / this level of traffic $5” function…

I’d like to gently punish left turns. The amount of clever 2m time savers that involve a quick 1 in 10,000 risk of death for a left turn

That’s OK. I only about a month ago figured out that I could turn on traffic on my android GPS. Yeah, I knew it existed, I was just completely unaware that I could turn it on on my gps. Which is of course android…which is google maps. Geezus I’m a stark raving idiot.
Like seriuosly, I used to have my daughter in the back seat using GPS on her phone because it had traffic and mine didn’t.
Boomers gonna boom.

A number of navigation programs do this these days. Apple maps is bad about it, google is supposed to be better.

We like to change the voice in Waze. Right now we’ve got Nate Bargatze.
