My back of the envelope calculation results in the US owing Great Britain $8-10 trillion in today’s dollars. Maybe GB wrote it off after US intervention in WW2.
Boy the more I think about it, the more of a terrible idea I realize it to be.
It would really only help people who use tipped jobs as a temporary gig while they’re in school. Like me. Not like people who are supporting families from their income as tipped employees.
Yeah, it sucks that they get negative paychecks and owe tax at the end of the year, but treating tips as gifts ultimately just makes it worse.
I saw this on another forum and just had to share. A bit for Harris in the debate.
“You know, his political career is like The Apprentice. New idea, new star, flashy helicopter, high ratings. By the eighth season, it was same old stuff. No real substance, just boring. They lost two-thirds of their viewers by then. Well, Donald, you just aren’t new and fun anymore.”
If Harris can’t use that in the debate, she and Walz could use it at rallies. I think poking fun at The Apprentice, especially the ratings, would really get under Trump’s skin.
He would spend days rage tweeting about The Apprentice.
I meant to say restaurant instead of fast food but you and Twig have thoroughly answered my question in any event.
It seems gimmicky at best to exempt tips from taxable income as it does not make much sense from a tax policy viewpoint. However Harris probably has no choice but to follow Trump’s lead on this as it does appeal to some voters.
Image going around on social media showing some of Walz’ family, who don’t know how to use apostrophes on their own name.
They are technically Walz’ family - descendents of the brother of his grandfather. Walz’ sister mentioned to the media that she doesn’t even recognize any of them.
does america really need more incentives to start a small business? my impression is that small businesses mostly employ low wage workers. it’s actually very hard to start a small business that is creating high value products and employing high wage workers. I feel like too many americans glorify entrepreneurs instead of just wanting good stable employment in a large organization. Larger organizations often enhance worker productivity because they have the resources and knowhow to utilize technology.
