United States Presidential & Congressional Election 2024

I suspect he mostly assumes he knows everything already and isn’t particularly interested in getting briefed by someone.

I have to say, Harris has gotten much better at speaking and messaging since her failed 2020 run at the Democratic Primary. I mean she’s never going to be mistaken for a orator like Obama or Clinton but she’s now at least better than passable. She also seems “likable” at least in her speech, I can’t speak to what kind of boss she actually is.And Walz as foil to Vance seems like an early stroke of genius. That guys seems very likeable. We’ll see if that continues through election day.

And I’m loving the focus of her campaign so far which seems in direct contrast to Trump to be bringing America forward and not dragging it backwards.

Someone on Reddit described Walz as the Ted Lasso of veeps and that feels roughly right.

Except I bet he knows what Offside is.
So, Season 3 Ted Lasso and not Season 1 Ted Lasso?

Harris has finally overtaken Trump on Oddschecker. First time for Harris (and before that, Biden) in several months. I’ve been checking daily since Biden pulled out.

Poor Trump. The poll results must be driving him crazy.

One of the entries in today’s live blog at the NYT (might not be a free link) might shed some light on some of the decisions the Trump campaign has been making lately:

Long quote

Also, in today’s press conference, Trump is now saying he wants three debates (NBC, ABC, Fox News).

So does he require the Fox News debate occur first so he can bail on the other two? And if Harris doesn’t do the Fox News debate, he won’t do the other two?

Edit: typo

What’s the complaint here? That’s 2 to 1 in the bag for Harris on hosting network.

I don’t think the network matters much. Trump is going to be the same asshole he has been for every debate in the past. Harris will look sane. They will get under each other’s nerves. The moderators will be complained about by both sides. MAGA will make up whatever shit they want afterwards.

There must have been a reason she didn’t agree to the original proposal of a debate on (only) September 4 on Fox News. I read somewhere that Trump would stack the audience with his supporters and pick moderators favorable to him.

That he’s lying. His lips were moving, that was the tell.

I hope I’m proven wrong, but I fear we won’t have a debate for the simple reason that Trump knows he’d get stomped. After canceling on the originally planned September 10 debate on ABC, it’s like every move he’s made has been designed to save face. First he proposed this alternate venue he knew Harris wouldn’t agree to so he could tell people she chickened out, not him. Then he proposed a series of three debates but the first one has to be the same Fox News arrangement, and we now have a commitment problem.

Again, I hope I’m wrong. I’d like to see a debate even if it’s in the middle of a Trump rally.

Yeah, he said it would be at an arena full of spectators. I assume he and/or Fox would pick the audience. Trump can unilaterally “agree” to all sorts of stacked formats. That’s not how this works.

Meanwhile, ABC is reporting that both sides have agreed to a debate. It’s on

Can you translate this for me? Do you mean NBC & ABC are mainstream media so of course are biased towards Harris, that Fox clearly has a pro-Trump/anti-Harris bias, or something else?

I get the Trump-ABC lawsuit could be an issue but is there something I’m missing with NBC?

Who hosted the debate that Biden got walloped on?

CNN
