United States Congressional & Gubernatorial 2022 elections

If you’re not interested in discussing the various races in the midterm election, there are lots of other threads. The whole point of this one is discussing the election.

Lol, some lots of people still want to call it for Trump.

yes

Weird good? Murkowski is the only R Senator running right now who voted to impeach.

I’m somewhat optimistic that RCV will carry her over her MAGA opponent right now.

In fact I wonder if her choice to impeach was informed by the knowledge that she’ll have some D support today.

Looks like Boebert pulled ahead overnight by ~1100 votes / 0.4%. They’re saying 99% in and CNN hasn’t called it.

seriously?

being this close, this was going to a recount no matter how it ended

Yeah, I’m not surprised they haven’t called it… just figured it was worth mentioning.

Looks like you’re correct about the recount: according to Ballotpedia Colorado has automatic recounts if the margin is less than or equal to 0.5%. Seems unlikely that either candidate will clear that threshold. But with Boebert 0.4% ahead now it’s not looking good.

Surprising to me: Boebert’s opponent is encouraging voters to cure their ballots NOW so they will be counted in the recount. I’m surprised that it’s still possible to cure ballots.

what does that mean?

I assume that he means a mail-in ballot not counted in the first election, perhaps due to a signature or date issue, will be counted in the recount if the error is fixed.

From GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert shared a meme and said 'Jesus is Lord' as she is locked in a tight race for reelection

Article is more about Boebert, but includes

But conceivably that was at a time when it was still possible to get an error fixed and counted for the first election. Here in PA, ballots had to be fixed by 8PM on election day. I have no idea if there were any exceptions for recounts.

NV Senate race might end up being the closest Senate race. It looks like AZ Kelly is starting to pull away even further.

got it - thank you

I guess that means people know when their ballot wasn’t counted

In many cases there are lists, so that they know or parties know and can try to motivate the voters. Some people here (on GoA) thought it was inappropriate that some jurisdictions here in PA made lists available, that made their way online, of voters by county who had submitted flawed ballots. I’m not sure how I feel about that, but I am more concerned that it varies drastically by jurisdiction within PA as to what information about ballots needed curing is available, even in statewide races.

ok, saw that conversation, didn’t follow it back to the beginning

To be it is like the databases where you can see if someone owes you money.

Personally, I would rather a single entry look-up (name, better yet SSN) and it gives you the info

CO Process:
Counties have until two days after the election to notify a voter that their ballot signature did not match. This is done via email (if email is on file) along with sending a letter. Voters then have until a week after Election Day to cure it. They can cure via a text message program and pictures from their smartphone or by going into the clerk office.

there’s a decent size batch of drop offs that are expected to lean R that haven’t been counted yet. I don’t know the details but they are being referred to as Box 3 ballots.

edited to add: they probably won’t be enough to close the gap in the Senate race, but the margin in the governor’s race is much thinner. but yeah, that batch is why I think that’s why no news outlet has made the call for Kelly.

So conceivably it is possible this becomes Deja Vu. If Reps win AK and hold off in NV and Dems win AZ. Then it will GA face off to be the difference between 50-50 or 51-49 Reps.

My comment is more just that it feels like we just did this two years ago…

About 17K Box 3 votes.

Senate lead is likely safe with Kelly up 115K votes. Governor in AZ being about 27K difference will be closer, but I think they are expecting Lake to potentially make up that difference.

At least a part of the “box 3” stuff is because of a glitch that happened in a lot of voting locations in maricopa county. The printers weren’t dark enough so the ballot readers couldn’t read them. They had to be put into “box 3” to be tallied later.

Someone at choir last night was talking about there being “3:1” odds for masters and lake winning.

I’d put lake at more likely than not, but I should have bet him $100 at those odds for masters. Free money.
