They can’t just be TRUMP SUCKS VOTE FOR US, though honestly that’s a lot of this year’s sentiment. They need some message that isn’t complicated like WE’LL BRING PRICES DOWN AND WAGES UP AND PUT REGULAR FOLKS BEFORE BILLIONAIRES. no need to go to get bogged down in policy, the Republicans never do.
They just say thinks like “WE’LL LOWER TAXES AND CUT JOB KILLING REGULATIONS AND REMOVE WASTE” without ever giving specifics or mentioning that billionaires will get the tax cuts and the regulations that they want to cut are purely for shareholder profits with the waste being anything that takes money from the wealthy to help to poor.
There’s a problem with this strategy.
With a message like that, the masses are going to expect to see things improve.
With the Glorious Leader in the White House, there is not much a D-controlled Congress can actually do. We’re looking at two years of government paralysis (and a lot of ugly political rhetoric).
I have zero faith that swing voters are going to be smart enough (etc.) to realize that going in…or to remember that when voting in 2028.
If D’s over-promise (or it the swing voters have reason to mis-believe that the D’s over-promised), the R’s have an easier chance of rebounding next time.
This election is not about improving the situation. The realistic best we can hope for is turning the second derivative positive.
I’ve done some polling and have some bad news about the efficacy of that campaign slogan.
