I heard you were in a spot of bother
We had a company social event this week outside but it was cancelled due to the extreme heat. Might hit 40C in the South.
Wow, over 100 in freedom units. Have you guys installed AC yet!?
Nope. We even have laws against putting A/C in new build housing.
Thats how absurd it is.
At least the climate is becoming better for vineyards I’ve heard
It is 77F here, allegedly, and the forecast for the rest of the day is lower than that (weatherunderground).
Won’t get past 80. Today. Gets hotter here in Aug and Sep.
Have you tried just moving the island further up north?
Odd, aren’t heat pumps a more efficient way to heat that also function as AC, why legislate against that?
By making it very onerous to gain planning permission for A/C when you have to build the houses.
They have so many regulations about it that it creates a larger cost for developers, who in turn decide its just not worth the headache.
Which generally means you have to install the AC system yourself (with a house that has not been designed for it) creating more costs and complications. So few do it due to costs.
The planning system in the UK is a dysfunctional mess that was originally written up when 30C was considered a hot day so who needed A/C? /s.
Well, that is dumb building strategy. Build a house with everything but the A/C. Ducts, vents, a place for the compressor and fan. That cannot cost THAT much more to build than one without, AND it is a more valuable house, so up the price.
It will probably hit 90 tomorrow here in Vancouver but it is cooler close to the ocean and it cools off more at night than London. My London family are grateful to be here rather than in London. Plus the higher temperatures last only a day or two here and they live in our basement which stays cool. We have a portable AC unit to cool our second floor bedroom.
What’s the default heating system, oil? Baseboard electric?
Switch either of those to a heat pump and you’ve got enough carbon savings from more efficient heating to make up for running AC in the Summer…
Default heating is still gas boilers in the UK.
Still stuck in the 20th Century.
Gas fired radiators and no AC sounds more like the 19th century to me.
Next thing you know, Dick van Dyke will come by, asking if your chimney needs cleaning.
We have been advised not to travel into the office this week.
Temperatures inside the tube could potentially reach 50C
Well at least there’s a bright side!
lol, recursion
