I would just add the word “non-existent” in front of “profit” in his last sentence.

US labour unions opposing US tariffs is a change.
I’d think it would be in their best interests. If the auto industries die in Canada and Mexico, I’m thinking the doors would open wide to Chinese imports similar to Australia. That ends up cutting into US exports and may accelerate the collapse of US auto companies.
The way American cars are built, a lot of parts go back and forth over the border. No parts, no cars built, no jobs.

Trump has lost the economic war with Canada as there will not be enough of a win, if any, for him to boast about. That won’t stop him lying about what a great deal he got but Carney is smart enough not to correct his lies.
Trump will boast about how he got American booze back on Canadian shelves but, like the Strait of Hormuz, he is not even getting back to the status quo as some Canadian consumers will continue to boycott US products.
Trump will boast he increased the Canadian market for US dairy farmers but this will be just an administrative amendment that gives US farmers equal opportunities as US food corporations to sell to Canada.The total amount of duty-free access is unlikely to increase as that would be political suicide in Canada.
There will probably continue to be US tariffs on large Canadian exports such as steel, aluminum, cars and softwood lumber but Canada can adapt to that.
The Republicans probably want a big win on the trade side before November: Carney has a five year mandate and the Canadian economy is performing well so less pressure to sign a bad deal.
Like Iran, this will not be a win for Trump.

It’s easy to stop a trade ban when it won’t affect new purchasing habits anyway. Win win.
This Australian situation sounds a lot like our lumber, steel and aluminum exports. Canada is more competitive than the US in these products so powerful US vested interests ensure that punitive tariffs get slapped on them. The US industries that use these imports pay more so the consumer does as well. Demand goes down along with US manufacturing jobs.
The US and Canadian economies would both be on fire right now without these stupid tariffs.
Poilievre would have had a great trade deal for Canada with Trump by now! 
Although I fear too much has already been conceded in the pursuit of what might be a meaningless deal.
