Trump Says the Darndest Things!

Probably a half-dozen or so “darndest things” that Trump said in his CPAC speech yesterday: the man was on a roll. This was typical:

“For years, Washington was controlled by a sinister group of radical-left Marxists, war-mongers and corrupt special interests,”

Two speakers at a conference gave Nazi salutes to the crowd. The President then spoke at the conference, and instead of articles asking whether or not it is appropriate for the President of the United States to speak at an event that features Nazi wannabes, the media is talking about him taking a victory lap.

Reporting on the Trump administration

Trump says tariffs will go forward against Canada and blames U.S. leaders for making bad trade deals with Canada. The last president who made a trade deal with Canada was actually Trump in his first term, when he negotiated the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

He is going to turn the US into a failed Casino at this rate.

Actual freezeframe from a video Trump posted online. Video itself deeply NSFW, features Trump and Netanyahu topless together on the beach. Also features a golden Trump balloon and bearded belly dancers b/c AI trans imagery is ok if it is in the cause of worshipping Trump.

So we need about 8 oligarchs to buy US visas to cover the (direct, budgetary) cost of DOGE so far to date?

I would like to know the legal authority for Trump to unilaterally change citizenship rules on his own without passing a law. Perhaps he’ll keep the $5m fees himself.

Does any Trump merch (Bible?) come with the $5M?

$5 million seems awfully cheap to me. Trump is still stuck in the 1980s. He’ll just get the “riff-raff”. If you are going to sell permanent residency, at least charge a meaningful price.

That would actually put it as one of the most expensive golden visa programs.

I think that the detailed specifics for eligibility for different kinds of visa are defined by administrative rules, rather than legislation. In this case, Trump is announcing a revision to the rules for an EB-5 visa.

I wouldn’t be surprised if his new rules might be outside the constraints imposed by the enabling legislation…but of the folks who have standing to sue to block it, who’s actually going to do that?

Yes. The usual figure is about €500k in the EU (if you buy property) or €2m or so (if you invest).

They have closed them down though (Malta, Portugal). I think Greece is still running one. UK shut the door a while back as well.

Agreed. This is the US. You want to buy your way in? Minimum 100m.

Malta’s golden passport is still open. Cyprus shut down its program due (rumors have it) to corruption concerns.

Seems like it really is. E.g., this article from New York Post

That building looks familiar. Have I seen it somewhere before?

Back to the Future II

I find it amusing how predictable he is. Last week people on another site I frequent were concerned with Trump wanting to visit Fort Knox. I pointed out he just wants to take the gold and make a giant gold statue of himself.

has trump also eliminated the US citizens tax burden extending to worldwide income? bc all the gold card members ain’t gonna love that
