Trump Says the Darndest Things!

Sounds like Trump was on a roll today.

I was going to post some quotes from a thread about his comments in /r/Conservative on Reddit, but the mods removed the post.

  • A lot of comments were blaming Ukraine for starting the war by joining NATO, saying we’d never let China set up nukes on the Mexico-US border so it’s all on Ukraine for necessitating a defensive invasion.

  • A lot of comments that he didn’t say it or it was taken out of context, despite the topic being a link to a video of him speaking (still out of context!)

  • A lot of comments like “IDGAF just stop wasting our tax dollars”.

  • Lots of comments about Biden or Ukraine stealing our money and funneling it to Biden’s/Zelensky’s political allies

The problem is that for most of those people Ukraine is a problem that is far away and does not really impact them.

Its an abstract concept for them so Trump can fill in that gap with propaganda.

For Europe, the Ukraine War was felt because of the massive inflationary wave that energy prices going up 5x caused. Very few people think it wasnt a problem because the majority were financially impacted by it.

The US didn’t experience this inflationary wave due to energy costs going up 5x so the link is much weaker.

I would take it further and just say it doesn’t immediately impact them.

If Canada was being invaded by Russia, MAGA would only care insofar as it puts them in direct danger - or if we could extort some concessions out of Canada in exchange for supporting them, I suppose.

So, apparently Zelenskyy is a dictator…

It is true that Ukranian elections have been delayed. However, I believe it is commonly accepted that elections can be delayed, for a time, when being in an active war zone would make free and fair elections impossible.

The Ukrainian constitution forbids elections during martial law.

Martial law is more than reasonable when your country is presently partially occupied, being further invaded, and is at risk of total capitulation.

Hard to say whether he’s being intentionally disingenuous or his mind is just melting further.

Like many humans, he has a tendency to regurgitate things that he hears.

He has recently been chatting with Putin.

Maybe the US should take over the Crimean Peninsula and develop it just like Gaza.

Donald Trump is (and I’m 100% serious, not being hyperbolic at all) incapable of anything but intentional disingenuousness.

But this hurts Manhattan…?

Not yet. The administration wants to discuss the orderly cessation of the tolls…and the MTA has sued to block.

What is disappointing to me is that Trump spouts these lies with the media in the room and they don’t nail him on it. If our Canadian PM spouted such easily challenged lies he would be crucified by our media.

Unfortunately, the environment in the US is such that if a media outlet crosses a line in holding the administration accountable, they lose access to the government, and the journalists involved face threats (or worse) of violence from the cult.

While I suppose that’s always been the case to a minimal extent in the US, the extent to which it’s true is a new and unpleasant reality.

Since most of the major media outlets are for-profit enterprises…

(At least we haven’t yet reached the point where journalists or newspaper owners are experiencing death by defenstration.)

Yeah. Very worrisome.

Gonna spend hundreds of millions on this because it worked so well last time

This is on the official White House X account. You have to click on the link to get the image of Trump as king.

It will be one month tomorrow.

Canadians aren’t traveling here now. Amazing that a stable genius couldn’t have foreseen this

I’m not sure Canada even needs to impose retaliatory tariffs on imports from the US. Canadian consumers will only be buying those few US goods that can’t be sourced elsewhere for the foreseeable future.

Oh. I forgot about the Peace Arch crossing. I foresee some sort of name change there.
