Trump Arrest Watch

That said I do recall hearing on TV that the Biden inauguration committee was prepared for him to be the 46th or the 47th POTUS… just in case there was an 11th hour resignation making Pence the 46th President. So like all the little flags & other paraphernalia that said “46” … they had “47” ones at the ready too.

Exactly. If he’d resigned, the Jan 6th insurrection and Fulton County, GA would have never happened. And the US President can’t pardon state charges. But does the Manhattan DA indict a former president that resigned in disgrace? I don’t know if he does.

True; I can’t argue with that.

I mean, he should but he probably wouldn’t.

I don’t think Ford especially liked Nixon. Ford said he thought it would be good for the country to put the matter behind us, and i think Ford believed that, and pardoned Nixon because he thought it was good for the country.

That was also my interpretation of the situation.

Ford seemed to be a decent man. It must have been difficult for him to work with Nixon.

Sure, but Nixon never sent an angry mob to hang Ford which cannot be said of Trump/Pence. It’s a pretty low bar when the other person is literally trying to have you killed. I think Nixon/Ford clear that bar.

I agree that Ford was probably not a huge Nixon fan. But there’s a pretty vast gulf between “fan” and “he tried to kill me” and somewhere in between those extremes is Ford’s personal feelings about Nixon.

And yet Pence still won’t denounce the guy.

True.

I think he still harbors some dream that someday he can become POTUS himself. It’s delusional in his case, but since many former VPs do go on to be POTUS it’s got to be something he’s thinking about.

And he knows he needs Trump’s supporters to make that happen. Which is true, but will never, ever happen. I don’t think he can admit that to himself.

Pence wouldn’t denounce Trump with the noose literally around his neck. He would shout “Hunter’s Laptops” as trap door opened.

He may be thinking it will be after Trump dies.

Still, he is they guy who betrayed the whole movement by not over turning the election.

They will never forgive that.

He might well be. He’s wrong if he is, but that might indeed be his train of thought.

I think the best he can hope for is lobbyist or Fox News commentator.

Precisely.

Maybe? I think most R politicians simply have nothing to gain by denouncing Trump, and a lot to lose. Like you said, he could still be a lobbyist, a news influencer, or have any number of other cushy jobs.

Here’s what I think is going to happen. Trump’s legal team is going to purposely poison the jury and force the judge to declare a mistrial.

The majority of Trump’s base don’t know what a mistrial is. And we know for a fact that the Tucker Carlsons of Fox are willing to lie. So they’ll just say “See, told you it was a bogus charge. The judge threw it out.”

And when the prosecutor files for a new trial, the Trumpkins will just say “See I told you it’s a witch hunt, they’re charging DJT with a crime a judge already threw out.”

Lather, rinse, repeat. When you literally have a US Senator fundraising for you, you can waste the court’s time ad infinitum.

Did anyone else listen to Rachel Maddie’s podcast “Ultra”? I wonder if Trump’s team might use the trial described there as a template.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don’t know what the charges are yet. But his defense can’t be “I didn’t do it”

I am partly basing this on the fact that Dan Quayle attempted a run at the presidency after his very unpopular tenure as VPOTUS where Republicans were urging GHWB to ditch him in 1992 and pick someone more likable. Colin Powell’s name was mentioned and several others as well. Yet in 2000 Quayle attempted a run.

Plus Pence also refuses to say he’s not running, when asked. Which presumably means he’s thinking about it.

Seemed like they were using the planning of the overthrow as a template.
