Trump Arrest Watch

Paying off your mistress is fine.

Deducting it as an expense is not.

Though if there are 34 counts, im guessing it isn’t all the Stormy payoff.

Everyone is just speculating about the evidence vs Trump in this case. Here’s some good background:

My blind speculation is still that in the unlikely event he does get convicted here that it won’t result in jail time. However, we are all in the dark about the details so perhaps there is something more there.

I’m much more optimistic that the Fulton Co GA investigation could result in more serious charges that most of us that don’t support sedition would like to see happen.

The indictment is still sealed. While it’s possible that a grand juror leaked into to CNN, it’s also possible their story is unfounded. We’ll know a lot more next Tuesday.

That corresponds to my recollection of the Edwards case. Both Trump’s and Edwards’ cases involved lovers getting paid hush money and the perps were indicted so that was the similarity I was referring to. I agree the mechanics of the payoffs were very different in the two cases so subject to different legal regimes.

I think I read that Trump’s lawyers were told about the indictment, they announced it, and then the prosecutors confirmed it.

They probably voted to indict him just to distract people from the Gwyneth Paltrow trial.

They’re both on-screen celebrities… makes sense.

From the Guardian live news…

The bolded looks suspiciously like something ChatGPT would produce.

My questions are this: is that statement scarier if it is true, or not true?

and is it true?

I believe it is true of a large minority of our society. I believe those who oppose what he stands for is larger and unfortunately, there is a large, silent inactive group that isn’t included, but does little to oppose it as well - including voting

When David Frost asked Richard Nixon whether the president could do something illegal in certain situations such as against antiwar groups and others if he decides “it’s in the best interests of the nation or something”. Nixon replied: “Well, when the president does it, that means that it is not illegal”.

Obviously Trump getting elected was in the national interest in his view, so I expect Trump to start quoting the Nixon line if he has not done so already.

The “, &” juxtaposition is the most annoying thing about this post for some reason.

I’d like to see Lindsey Graham demonstrate this theory.

It’s like a digital perp walk

The Rs are using this whole thing for absolutely shameless fundraising.

I am still trying to get my head around people on low incomes (and even poverty) who religiously send money to Trump every month.

They guy has literally called them stupid. Multiple times.

He tells them he is basically swindling them and they still send money.

Just baffling.

the Lord works in mysterious ways.

Fox certainly knows how to trigger its followers with stories like this one. Of course, The View made it easy for them to do so.

Sometimes what’s remarkable about a statement isn’t whether it’s true or false. It’s that someone thought that saying it was a good idea.

I recall a friend coming to me upset that her (28 year old) boyfriend told her he’d slept with over 200 women before her. I was like, well there’s exactly two possibilities. Either it’s the truth or it’s a lie. Neither one paints him in a good light.
