It is important to note that the GA Governor doesn’t have pardon powers, the parole board does. Not sure of the terms/conditions of parole board service, i.e. can the Governor terminate at will and replace with lackeys
No clue, but GA the Parole Board can’t consider a pardon until the convict serves at least 5 years. I think the reason was covered earlier in this thread and had to do with selling pardons in the past.
If true, this is complete and utter bullshit.
What is your basis for thinking this is true?
We have a constitutional solution to a POTUS being unable to perform their duties as President. The cabinet and VPOTUS remove him or her from office and the VPOTUS takes over. If a sitting POTUS or a POTUS-Elect is convicted of a crime and sentenced to jail or prison then he or she should serve the sentence immediately and the cabinet & VPOTUS should act per the terms of the 25th Amendment and the VPOTUS takes over.
Which… might well mean Acting President Ramaswamy.
But that’s what should happen.
I disagree. There isn’t anything the President is required to do that can’t be done either remotely, or by bringing people to the White House, or by sending proxies out into the world on their behalf.
A large portion of the continuity of government planning done to ensure the country will function in the event of a major catastrophe (like nuclear war) is based on the premise that the President is to be kept somewhere secure, with communications links ensuring that they will be able to do their duty.
It’d be less than ideal for a President to be confined to White House grounds under house arrest, but if the American public is stupid enough to want it..
Did they call the Boot Girls?
Lol that someone here knows about that
Then you get into the situation where he refuses to leave his jail after the next election.
Was my first thought, too.
While there is merit in debating the nature and impact of incarceration on a possible Trump presidency, my bigger concern is still that he is found not guilty of all charges brought against him. That almost guarantees a Trump presidency with no guard rails.
True…but his winning the election is not guaranteed.
At the moment, I would still bet on Biden winning a repeat of a Biden v Trump match-up, given that we will have trials, or at least motions preceding the trials, to remind the apathetic of the craziness of the prior administration.
However, given reallocation of votes in the Electoral College, and the sheer number of Republican voters who seem to be under the influence of the MAGA Kool-Aid… I probably wouldn’t put more than a few bucks on such a bet.
I think Trump has aged better than Biden in the last four years? Trump is going to look younger and more dynamic than Biden in a head to head debate? Trump will also call Biden a socialist or worse based on his record? That can influence some voters. I would not bet on a Biden win.
Neither candidate is a friend of Canada based on their respective trade policies. However I think Biden is better for America!
That’s not a new thing.
It may stick more this time as Biden has not been as moderate as expected since he took office.
Just to be clear, I find the reference to Biden being a socialist to be laughable.
By that, I assume you mean Trump has a better combover and colorist than Biden. But, in terms of indictments, Biden has aged better.
I was thinking more that Trump has lost a few pounds and seems to have more energy than Biden. Biden looks tired and slow and that will come through in a head to head debate.
Our Canadian leader, Trudeau at age 51, is also looking relatively tired these days: maybe because the leaders of the two opposing parties are both 44.
I suppose losing a few pounds isn’t too hard when you have a diet of McDonalds and KFC.
Interesting new poll results on perception of Biden versus Trump ages.
That’s weird. DT is only a couple of years younger than Biden. He’d look old AF without modification.
