This just seems to be hurting people.for the sake of being cruel.

It’s more than cruel. It strikes me as pernicious to business in general.

The heart of any contract is a quid pro quo. You do X and then I will do Y. So the US federal government is defaulting on what at worst is an implicit arrangement. To me, this goes beyond the DEI vengeance nonsense. That’s just as cruel, but it doesn’t scream “we don’t need no legalities.”.

It heavily reminds me of how negative Republicans were about Biden fixing our broken student loan forgiveness under Public Service Loan Forgiveness plans.

It was a straightforward promise made by the government to future teachers and other people going into underserved, low-paying jobs… and almost all of them got screwed out of their promised loan forgiveness.

Biden (his admin, anyway) began fixing what the government broke, and Republicans accused him of buying votes.

The back-and-forth has escalated to the point where the state has now deployed as many as six police squad cars to guard asphalt, their sole mission to prevent the reemergence of rainbow colors at the site of one of the worst anti-LGBTQ+ massacres in U.S. history.

Earlier this week, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy sent letters to all 50 governors calling for the removal of Pride crosswalks. Florida was the first to comply. Within days, state officials painted over the rainbow crosswalk at Orlando’s Pulse memorial, the site of the 2016 massacre that claimed 49 LGBTQ+ lives.

Back of envelope math from a quick Google, that’s $20,000+ per day to guard the crosswalk from chalk.

The original rainbow crosswalk was also made by the FL DOT when Rick Scott was governor. The whole thing is such petty stupidness.

Anyone interested in trekking to Tallahassee to go paint a bunch of crosswalks around state government offices?

I unfortunately have to go to Florida in the near future. At least all of us pass as cishet. I won’t be back by choice, to be sure.
