Today I learned

I use the door lock button. The horn beeps slightly and the headlights come on for a second. It’s like calling your own cell phone from the house phone. :meep:

Yes, indeed . It was a big deal when NBC came up with their “ten minute clicker” (I think they called it) where they showed the scores across the league every n* minutes.

I was looking for one with a crank on the side…I don’t think they ever properly had a rotary dial

Oh no, the call is coming from inside the house. Better run to the attic. Or hide behind the chain saws.

oh, so the score - never heard score bug

I was so impressed when baseball started updating the stats during the game.
The numbers shown used to be fixed from the start of the game,
I used to update them with pencil and paper during the game.
I would also update the newspaper Sunday stats page during the week.

I watched a Mariners game once where they were celebrating the history of televised baseball or something pretty close to that and so they started off broadcasting the game as it would have appeared in 1939 (black & white, no graphics) in the first inning then 1949 in the second inning, 1959 in the third inning & so on & so forth. I think it was maybe in 2009, which would have been the 70th anniversary of televised baseball. It was interesting to see the advances as they came along.

If only all broadcasters would make the score bug’s team names and scores match the teams’ uniform colors.

Before HDTV, i can see how the score bug could take up too much space. Fonts can be smaller now.

That would be cool to watch

Yeah, it was!

I remember when ESPN wound sound a jingle for the 28/58 update. Everyone would stop what they were doing to see the other scores in progress.

soapbox> I detest constant tickers of all kinds on any station. They are overdone and not good for the brain. Maybe it’s OK on Redzone or NFL Network Gameday when the only reason I’m checking in is to see current scores and stats.

sin(thread)/cos(thread): I remember back in the 90s some cable news station (probably CNN) had about three or even four tickers/info-boxes going at the same time. I remember that they displayed it all slowly enough that one could, indeed, catch it all before it left the screen, but it was overwhelming & not a good use of my brain.

If you hold the remote under your chin and open your mouth you can be a greater distance from your car to set of the panic alarm

I don’t want a car that has an app.

Eh, it’s pretty nice. I can remote start the car so it’s already warming up or cooling off before I get to it. If I can’t recall if I locked it I can remote lock it. Or remote unlock it without digging through my purse for the key if someone else needs to get in it. (If I need to get in and I have my purse there’s a proximity key so no need to fish the key out of the purse … ever … unless the battery needs to be replaced.)

Oh, also I can look at the app and check the mileage (useful for looking up the Kelly Blue Book value during divorce mediation) or the gas level or the tire pressure or how long it’s been since the last oil change. So useful in all sorts of ways.
