Interesting article about Canada’s national anthem. I’m listening to Liszt’s Symphonic Poem #7 and the passages lifted and inserted into O Canada are unmistakable.
At least they have semi-good taste
Oh the Canadian national anthem is arguably better than the American national anthem. I was just surprised to hear lines from it in the Liszt piece and Googled it and this is what I got.
I dunno
our tune is from a drinking song (plus) and the song has bombs in it (plus)
Fixed, to fit the song.
My college roommate ranked our fight song as the best college fight song (Ramblin’ Wreck) since it has drinking, gambling, and swearing.
but are you a hell of an engineer?
The other day a piece came on the radio. I didn’t recognize the composer, but I did recognize that it sounded an awful lot like the Avengers theme.
helluva, of course, just not an Engineer. ![]()

In the 1950s, Idaho’s Fish and Game Department came up with a unique way to relocate beavers into remote wilderness. The traditional way of relocating “nuisance” beavers in the 1940s wasn’t working. To increase the survival rate, one conservation officer turned to—yes—parachutes. Surplus parachutes from WWII were used to drop the beavers into the backcountry by plane. After some trial and error, a specially-designed wooden box that would open upon impact was created. The first beaver to parachute was an older male named Geronimo. When the plan was perfected, Geronimo, along with three female beavers, was one of the first of his kind to parachute into beaver paradise. All in all that year, 76 beavers were dropped into the basin, and all but one survived the fall. They went on to contribute to their habitat and make more beaver babies, the descendants of which still live in the area today¹.

TIL that I don’t want to visit the Netherlands. I’m sure it’s a perfectly lovely country, especially if you like to ride bicycles, but…
That any of them are less than 100.00% is ![]()
I’m betting most of those are higher than the a majority of the US.
In not willing to put much effort into looking but this looks like it is recent (post pandemic) data.
There are a few other stats in their that might turn your stomach as well ![]()
Keep in mind - those are only the ones who were willing to admit it…

I’m familiar with the term luddite when generally used as a pejorative for someone incapable/unwilling to use technology. I thought this take was interesting:
