Today I learned

After only hearing the name repeatedly on the radio but not seeing it written, I finally had to look it up. It’s not the Aroma Doomsday that it sounded like to me. It’s Rome Odunze.

TIL Apple uses a different model number internally. I recently got an iPhone 16, while setting things up my bank sent me a text saying an iPhone 17 was trying to access my account. I sent a screen shot to a friend who said yeah, that’s normal, Apple calls the 16 a 17 internally.

This sounds really bad TBH

That’s like the days when CAS Exam 6 was the 7th exam. Coz actuaries aren’t great at counting?

Bruckner composed a Symphony No. 0. It’s not too bad.

If two thermodynamic systems are each in thermal equilibrium with a third system, then they are in thermal equilibrium with each other.

Cheeky 2 thermodynamic systems at the same time meme goes here.

Emmanuel Macron, President of France, met his wife when he was a 15 year-old high school student and she was a 39 year-old teacher. She’s almost 25 years older than he is.

Get this: two of Macron’s three stepchildren are older than he is.

The idea that abusive men have an anger problem is a myth created by abusive men to jusify thier abuse. The proof is the vast majority of those same men manage to not get in fist fights at work or in other non-relationship contexts. The driver is a core sense of entitlement to control the woman they have intimate relationships with. The control lets them do way less work than would if they treated thier partners as equals, so they fight hard to obfusticate and maintain that inequality.

For more info look up Lundy, Why Does He Do That?: Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men, free pdf on the internet archive.

I don’t think there’s any one reason why people are abusive. Mental health is complicated.

The point made in the book is actually that abuse isnt complicated, its driven by entitlement. Calling it mental health related is a way abusers obfusticate thier motives.

It was written by someone who spent 20 years doing mostly court ordered counseling for abusive men.

My first hand knowledge is limited, but I found the thesis well supported.

The simplest proof point was, are these people abusive to everyone, or only to people they have power over.

If it was purely mental health related they’d be just as abusive to thier boss as thier spouse. They generally don’t abuse thier boss because there would be consequences. They can get away with abusing thier spouse without consequences, and generally it gives them significant benefits.
