It’s mostly old spots, not new. Nothing I’m super worried about but a couple itch and one is a weird color and they seem to be growing over the years. (But still small, 2 are the pencil eraser size and one is tiny but weird shaped.)
I have never been able to get a proper picture of skin things.
Go direct to the dermatologist for this kind of thing IMO. Based on their findings, they’ll let you know whether you should get semi-annual exams, annual exams, or not to bother with it.
I’m on semi-annual, and hoping to get bumped back to annual after my next exam.

Regular doctor. I think they’re pretty good with these things. Regular doctor detected my daughter’s cancerous mole. And I recently went to our doctor to look at a spot. They had a good look up close and determined it was nbd. Some type of thing like an age spot. So I asked her if she was surprised to see it on someone so young.
My PCP removed several of my skin spots, told me to have my wife check me regularly. When one spot was larger than his tools could handle, he sent me to the dermatologist, who removed a couple of them. I’m back to the PCP (2x/year) until he says the dermatologist is needed.
The PCP confirmed that a couple of spots were a “wimpy” cancer. So I’m a wimpy cancer survivor. 
The ones I’m concerned about look like big freckles. But they are dry and itchy—my regular freckles don’t itch.
According to Dr Google they could be precancerous.
My PCP doesn’t want to refer me without seeing them. I don’t NEED a referral but I thought I’d be more likely to get in sooner if I had one.
I guess I’ll go see her and if she brushes me off I’ll see a dermatologist next year.
I didn’t know a PCP could brush freckles off. 
problem with going straight to a dermatologist is that you already need one who takes your calls. if you do, they might see you soon. if not, they will see you in 6 to 9 months. go to whoever will see you first and if PCP, ask them to get you seen sooner if troublesome
That’s where I’m leaning. I need to establish a relationship but I’m always waiting until I meet my deductible and then I can’t be seen until February. So I’ll go to my PCP as requested but if she brushes me off (which she probably will) then I’ll just make a direct appointment next year and hopefully get in around this time. Then maybe I can establish annual visits.
I have been miss reading the meaning of PCP for a page or two now. oops.
Huh, my husband saw a dermatologist today. I think he made the appointment a couple weeks ago.
Was he an established patient? I’ve gotten my kids in with a referral, but it was for something that needed to be treated vs a screening.
He saw the guy a year and a half ago, but says he didn’t have any trouble getting an appointment then, either. He probably had a referral from his PCP in the same system.
At a minimum, please set up annual skin cancer body screenings with a recommended dermatologist.
My issue with dermatologists is that the place i go has a lot of turnover. So i see a new one every year. (Lots of skin cancer in my family, so i do get an annual screening.)
This got me to make a skin check appointment with the dermatologist. I was surprised to get something in only a couple of months.
That is an issue. It is difficult, yet important, to find a solid, stable, set of doctors. Not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to do this. Some doctors (and medical issues) are important enough to see completely outside of your insurance arrangements.
So you think I should skip my PCP’s offer of a screening?
I don’t really think I need the same person to look at my hide every year. I doubt they remember me, even if it’s the same person. If I had something more complex or interesting than an annual screening I might try harder to find someone who would stay.
(and it’s not like I could see them outside of insurance. One left to rear children. Others have moved out of the area.)
I would see your PCP also
