Also this was just posted to FB:
returned to urgent care. prior course was not adequate. response today was xray (totally healthy lungs!), stronger antibiotic, and…prednisone! Didn’t even have to beg, it was offered.
Apparently mono is the root of a lot of immune issues like MS, rheumatoid arthritis, etc. Virus’s are crazy.
Yeah. Lots of weird long-term damage can be caused by a virus.
It’s the Epstein-Barr virus and not so much the mono itself that’s linked to other disease. And apparently some 90% of people have been exposed to EBV.
I feel for you. I’ve had the battle of prolonged bronchitis before and it can be debilitating.
My quack HMO doctor once refused me any meds for a monthlong bout of bronchitis. No antibiotics (“Won’t work on a virus”) and no codeine cough syrup for nighttime (“Take the over the counter stuff”). This is the same quack who wouldn’t give me pain meds for broken toes and misdiagnosed my shingles as a bacterial eye infection.
um…can’t you find another doctor?
I can, but I’d have to travel more than 1 mile from my house. My health insurance has some spotty coverage as far as some limited options.
I put 3 kids through orthodontics, and to get an orthodontist “in network” to get even a little bit of coverage, I had to drive 3 suburbs over. Those were long and frequent drives over several years. He was a decent ortho though. No issues with his work.
For those of you with reflux/GERD problems - I wonder if eating while standing, or standing shortly after may help you.
At home for my colitis I usually eat standing at the kitchen island, then we usually watch a show after as I stand/pace around for an hour. People think it’s weird when we visit them but whatever. Just an idea, although my disease is different.
i often stand during/after eating. I should try standing for a whole hour
Go see a gastroenterologist…have them prescribe you some Pantoprazole sodium delayed release…probably 40 mg…just once a day.
My reflux typically only flares up when I lay down. It’s been much better since I switched up my meds.
When you lay what down? /grammardork
Ditto. I almost never have reflux during the day. And if i do have it at night, i sometimes need to sit upright for a period of time, but I’ve never felt the need to stand.
actuaries don’t lie
I just take an acid reducer if I eat too much or eat anything too acidic (tomato sauce, curry, garlic flavoring)
This wasn’t an issue until I was like 27-28. But now I am pretty used to taking one whenever I eat something that could trigger acid reflux. I am trying to avoid esophageal cancer
edit: I should add that I just take an over the counter generic acid blocker - famotidine, it is cheap and works well (90 pills for about $10)
The reflux is mostly better, but it’s been replaced by extreme, unexplained exhaustion again and a new symptom that I need audrea to talk about who I don’t have here.
anyway, I think I’m dying. I saw a nurse practitioner yesterday and am getting a follow-up test that I couldn’t schedule for another 3 weeks. If I die between now and then, miss me. she said that if my symptoms get worse between now and when I can get that test to go to the ER. this makes me feel super awesome about my future in this world and my anxiety levels are at an extreme high as a result.
The symptom that Audrea might take about probably explains why you feel tired. My mother was bleeding into her stomach, and after they gave her two units of blood and cauterized the place that was bleeding, she felt a burst of energy. Well, for her, anyway. The day before i took her to the hospital she could barely walk, she was so tired.
Also, yeah, go to the ER if you lose a lot of blood and can’t get an appointment.
um, are you saying i’m going to die like your mother did?
the tmi issue is, my period started super early at 18 days and has been going on for 15 days and counting now which is way too long. could be symptoms of perimenopause or something way more sinister.
i didn’t have this issue when i last had fatigue in September. i just had fatigue and nothing else.
When i had the extreme fatigue in september, i took a slew of blood tests that didn’t show anything other than slightly elevated platelets and that’s it. if i had internal bleeding wouldn’t blood tests show something?
