I’ve been to ohio once. Pre-internet. Decided we were going to branson, listen to some country music. Just a random trip one weekend.
Pre-internet, I guess I got confused because instead of branson missouri, we ended up in brandon ohio.
Found a hotel, went for a drive. Got lost. Driving down a residential street, everyone in the street is staring at us. Honestly, never seen anything like it in my life. Everyone, street, front porch, etc.
Stopped at a light, cops pull up beside us. I roll down my window, he asks if we’re lost. Yep. He tells me to follow him. He took us back to our hotel.
So, that happened, and is what I know of Ohio.
I’ve probably driven through it since, but not stopped.
in a couple weekends I’m going home with my spouse, daughter and granddaughter. it’ll be like that old limit problem where we have to stop halfway, then halfway from the stop to home, and so in and basically never get there.
We drive to Ontario just across the US border every year and this really resonates. We go the first half without stopping and then seem to exponentially increase stops as we get closer.
For real though my least favorite part of NJ is that I can’t pump my own gas. I’ll wait to get gas to be out of state so I don’t need to wait for an interact with another human.
Counterpoint: No it’s not.
If in Columbus, the farthest border is about 130 miles away (did not look up).
Having spanned Texas on The 10, we stopped twice. Once outside of El Paso, and once just past Houston.
Having gone north in CA, stopped at Redding, which is 10 hours from L.A. Area.
So, no, Ohio is not “huge.” Coincidentally (Ohioans will understand), it is the 17th smallest state by area.
So the entire site was deindexed, nothing in Google. Thus,no rankings.
I set up google search console and submitted a sitempa like it’s 1996 or something. I did that a couple days ago. Today, it’s starting to index pages. No manual penalty, no idea what caused this.
But, we are back #1 for actuarial discussion forum again.
Claude’s claiming an algorithmic penalty. I guess a few were rolled out last year and apparently hit forums pretty hard. I don’t monitor this stuff anymore,so OK i guess. Except it’s wrong, because an algo doesn’t cause deindexing like this. It might drop our ranking, but that’s not what happened - we were removed completely from Google which screams manual penalty by google, or technical problems. And there’ sno manual penalty.
ANyway, no idea. It’s currently recovering, I’ll keep an eye yout.
Yup. I just tried some of the searches that didn’t work before, and there it is, right at the top. As this is (to the best of my knowledge) the only actuarial forum on Discourse, i thought it was really bizarre to get references to it but not the site itself.
Ok the google search console results are in and it looks like…..the forum is considered low quality content. And certainly not actuarial.
Which, if you look at much of the content, it’s a valid search engine assessment. Thousands of pages of people reposting images, game threads with almost no content, etc.
All content that’s engaging for member here, just not stuff a search engine has any interest in indexing. Fair enough.
So end result, I think we’re mostly back in again, but that’s about it. And since that impacts my earnings not at all lol, it’s good enough.
I believe that the old AO would’ve been in that same SEO trap as a large chunk of the material was non-actuarial (albeit, there was a lot more actuarial content–heavily with Exam material/discussion–than what we currently have on this site).
The old AO always had a chunk of exam discussion.i didn’t think this site ever attracted any students to speak of. The discord was the big winner for that.
