If you fold a length of toilet paper 8 sheets long in half, then in half again, then in half again - it is much faster than trying to fold individual sheets 7 times (n-1), to get an 8-thickness wad of toilet paper. Of course this is only necessary at Walmart or gas station restrooms.
I should note that I’ve never actually timed this and it may not be faster at all. It just feels more gratifying in a number-nerdy way.
I tried looking it up and all I get is that it’s a Dutch surname.
