There was a sale on Dolly Parton frozen single-serving meals and I couldn’t not buy some. I grabbed a shrimp and grits because shrimp and grits even if it is lame frozen. But after having put one ludicrous pinkish package in my cart, I figured I might as well grab the chicken fried steak, too.
Yesterday I had the chicken fried steak and it had a bit of a surprise. I was expecting a typical salisbury steak “steak”, but it appeared to be a small piece of the real thing, pounded flat and complete with the tough bits you sometimes run into - a bad cut pounded almost into submission. Hmm I guess I need to point out that I meant that as a complement. Otherwise it was what you’d expect.
Tonight I had the shrimp and grits. It was a tad spicier than you’d expect in a grocery store freezer, plus had identifiable cherry tomato halves on the top.
I wouldn’t go out of my way for either of them. In fact, I’ll probably never buy them again unless they’re on clearance. But they distinguish themselves a bit from the standard frozen stuff, which I like.
