There's No Place Like Home

Well funny you mention rolling over as investigating my expense ratio reminded me that I hadn’t rolled over my 401k from my previous job, but is that unadvisable? Seems harmless to roll my previous (basically career to date except the past year) into my current 401k since I’ve got the 0.03% expense load Vanguard fund available here?

While we’re on lasagna can we also declare eggplant lasagna not lasagna? Such a let down

OK. I’ll admit (for now) that maybe I’m the asshole here and misinformed. Carry on.

I don’t think you’re an a-hole, but I appreciate people that are willing to call themselves a-holes… so a like for you!

I don’t care what you do wrt lasagna but leave parmesan alone.

Thanks for this. I would have clicked the heart, but didn’t want it to be perceived as mean-spirited when I genuinely appreciate the sentiment.

I am not an expert on anything, but a quick google search and intuition confirms that these are the pros & cons:

  • +all your money in one place/easier to manage
  • +supposedly, your 401k would have lower fees if your money is professionally managed
  • +if you’re old, you don’t have to take required distributions if your money is in a 401k (not true for an ira)
  • -limited investment options
  • -no say on who the investment manager is
  • -time-consuming

imo, only 1, 4, & 6 are noteworthy. It looks like 1 is a big plus for you & 4 is not an issue for you. 6 is just something you’d have to deal with…kind of like going to the DMV - you know the wait times are going to be brutal, but you just deal with it and move on with life.

ditto

…and a -click for both of you for being gracious to someone who’s admitting a “fault”.

In other news, people have started calling me San Andreas since my faults are frequent and hugely-noticeable at times…and also quite destructive to property values…you should see me try to do home-maintenance. (Hey! Look at that! We’re back on topic.)

I’m currently not in the middle of home reno’s which is something new. For $50 at an insurance company auction I picked up a twin of this chair:

I’m thinking I should strip it down and refinish it.

I’d do something about that crack down the middle. You’re liable to get your leg pinched. :ouch:

Mine’s in much better condition.

Curious to think that this would’ve been an insurance exec chair.

I hope you have a copy of Group Insurance on the shelf there!

Nothing quite so interesting. I was an actuarial student and the company I worked for had an auction to clear out old furniture.

When my last company shuttered the office building (just one building, the company didn’t go bankrupt or anything), except for some big ticket items like TVs and leather couches, we could just take whatever we wanted, for free. I snagged a few things, and all the pens/pencils/paper/binders/etc I could to donate to my son’s school. I think I donated north of 100lb of good, usable supplies.

Aw I was hoping for some untapped, exciting new activity for me to partake in.

“Storage Wars: Actuarial Edition”?

Let’s see is we can’t get this to work.

Temp finally dropped below 70 so had to light this up tonight. First time we put it in the deck because it was the first time we had the screen in top.

I knew a dark hardwood was going to be a PITA to keep clean, and it really has performed a bit better than I had expected, but it was professionally cleaned before I got here, and now it’s starting to get that “please mop me” look.

So how do I mop this floor without leaving mop streaks everywhere? I have no mop and haven’t done any mop research. Give me all your mop tips please and thanks.

We use something that looks like this: ULINE - Shipping Boxes, Shipping Supplies, Packaging Materials, Packing Supplies but with replaceable pads I believe.
