THE RULES

Please note the following rules for participation here:

Per the Terms of Service: “You may not submit content to the forum that is illegal, offensive, or otherwise harmful to others. This includes content that is harassing, inappropriate, or abusive.” The forum depends on its users and volunteer moderators to enforce the content standards. Abuse of these standards will not be tolerated. The actions of the moderators are final.

We are still working on exam discussion rules, but this site will enforce the rules of the CAS and the SoA regarding exam security.

Discussion of moderator actions is not allowed. Period. Arguing with a mod about mod actions will get you booted. These things can be discussed privately if need be, but the mods are not required to explain their actions to you.

Moderators may issue instructions relevant to a specific thread, (please stick to the topic, which is X) or to a specific use (please don’t start any more threads on Y, nor engage in discussions on Y started by other users) or to a combination of the two (Z, please do not post anything more in this thread). Violation of such moderator instructions may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the forum.

No insulting other posters. You may insult the post, but not the poster. Truth is not a defense. If a poster is, in your opinion, causing problems that need to be addressed, bring it to the attention of the mods. Do not directly engage with the problem-causing poster about the issue.

Trolling is forbidden. Trolling for this purpose means intentionally making inflammatory comments with the intent to provoke an emotional or “knee jerk” reaction from other posters. While the mods can never know the intent of a poster with certainty, they will make their best determination as to what constitutes trolling, and their decisions will be final.

You can flag a post and bring it to the attention of the moderators. You may or may not be included in the resolution of an issue you flag.

Alternate ID are allowed. If one ID is suspended or banned, you may not post under an alt. Exception: If you also have an ID in your real name, you may post under that ID so long as there is no connection between the topic of your real-name posts and whatever behavior got the anonymous ID suspended. If you violate this rule, all of your IDs will be permanently banned.

Threads may be locked if they drift off topic or devolve into petty fighting.

I just wanted to bump this, as there have been a few questions about this recently. This is not the AO, and this is one way in which this site is different from the AO.
