MTT was an American conductor, composer, pianist and music pedagogue. He conducted a wide variety of music internationally, with a focus on the works by Gustav Mahler and of contemporary American music, the first to record works by Aaron Copland, Charles Ives, and Steve Reich. In 1987, he founded the New World Symphony, an American orchestral academy in Miami Beach, Florida, serving as its artistic director laureate. He was also music director laureate of the San Francisco Symphony and conductor laureate of the London Symphony Orchestra. His compositions include From the Diary of Anne Frank (1990) Shówa/Shoáh (1995) for the 50th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima, and Poems of Emily Dickinson (2002). In 2021, he was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive type of brain cancer. He died April 22 at age 81.

Ted Turner: DEAD!
Mr. Turner was an American entrepreneur, television producer, media proprietor, and philanthropist. He founded the Cable News Network (CNN), the first 24-hour cable news channel. In addition, he founded WTBS, which pioneered the superstation concept in cable television, as well as television network TNT. He also dabbled in sports: he owned the Atlanta Braves baseball team and captained the United States to victory in the 1977 America’s Cup yacht sailing race against Australia. He died today at age 87.

Jason Collins: DEAD!
Mr. Collins was an American professional basketball center for 13 seasons in the NBA. He played college basketball for the Stanford Cardinal, earning third-team All-American honors in 2001. Collins was selected by the Houston Rockets as the 18th overall pick in the 2001 NBA draft. He went on to play for the Nets, Grizzlies, Timberwolves, Hawks, Celtics and Wizards. After the 2012–13 NBA season concluded, Collins publicly came out as gay. In February 2014 he became the first publicly gay athlete to play in any of the four major North American pro sports leagues.He announced his diagnosis of stage 4 glioblastoma in December. He died to day at age 47.

Kanya King: DEAD!
Ms. King was a British businesswoman who founded the MOBO Awards in 1996, honouring achievements in “music of Black origin” such as gospel, jazz, R&B, soul, reggae and hip-hop. In 2011, King was named one of London’s Most Influential People by the London Evening Standard, one of Britain’s Most Entrepreneurial Women (Real Business) and was regularly listed in the Powerlist as one of Britain’s Most Influential Black People. She was recognised by the music industry in 2016, with the “Media Pioneer Award” at the Music Week Women In Music Awards. In February 2013, she was rated as one of the 100 most powerful women in the United Kingdom by Woman’s Hour on BBC Radio 4, and also featured on the BBC’s 100 Women. In October 2015, King was listed by UK-based company Richtopia at number 60 in the list of 100 Most Influential British Entrepreneurs. In 2025, King was awarded one of The Ivors Academy’s Honours, recognising “advocates and innovators who champion songwriters and composers and help to build a stronger, fairer and more inclusive music industry”, other recipients including Raye and Sir Richard Branson. She died June 3 at age 57.

Princess Bajrakitiyabha: DEAD!
Princess Bajrakitiyabha was a member of the Chakri dynasty of Thailand. She was the first grandchild of King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit, the oldest child of King Vajiralongkorn, and the only one born to the latter’s first wife Princess Soamsawali. It had been highly speculated that Bajrakitiyabha would succeed Vajiralongkorn, either as queen proper or queen regent for her youngest brother Dipangkorn Rasmijoti. In 2022, she collapsed as a result of a heart condition while out walking her dogs. After a nearly four-year coma, she died yesterday at the tender age of 47.

Gene Shalit: DEAD!
Mr. Shalit was an American journalist, television personality, film and book critic, and author. After he began his career as a print journalist, writing articles for the New York Times and TV Guide, he starting to work part-time on NBC’s The Today Show in 1970. He appeared regularly there from January 15, 1973, until retiring on November 11, 2010. He was known for his frequent use of puns and his distinctive appearance, with a long mustache and Afro-style perm. He died June 12 at age 100.

Just received word that Alan Greenspan has died.
Alan Greenspan: DEAD!
Mr. Greenspan was an American economist who served as the 13th chairman of the Federal Reserve from 1987 to 2006. He worked as a private adviser and provided consulting for firms through his company, Greenspan Associates LLC. He died today at age 100.

Ms. Smokler was the founder of Scary Mommy, a content company she built from a personal blogsite, targeting mothers, specifically focusing on parenting, motherhood, current events, and pop culture. It was was created in March 2008 when Jill started a personal blog that caught fire with parents. Jill also released a companion book in 2012, “Confessions of a Scary Mommy,” and that became an instant bestseller. She died Monday after a more than two-year fight with glioblastoma at age 48.
