The Rebel Forum/Go Actuary 2024 Celebrity Death Pool

I submitted 2 DDP entries this year: my theme team is still Nearly Dead Kennedys, and my non-themed entry is named Stiff Competition

Once again alternates are in play:

No one took Cale Yarborough to die in 2024. Or 2023.

Ugh. Update pending

I finished 10th in the theme league.

My money deadpool is making a tweak to the rules this year (somewhat in response to my dominant 2 wins in 2 years in the pool IMO). I’m fine with it, but might have to change strategy slightly. I’m interested in opinions, but am spoilering my question below to not derail this thread for those not interested

Summary

The new rule is the death must be reported in one of the following: cnn.com, abcnews.go.com, cbsnews.com, nbcnews.com, npr.org, espn.com, and tmz.com. I believe all of my past hits there were reported in one of these with the exception of George Alagiah.

Deadline for that pool is 1/15. Here are some possible entries I might make but wonder if they could possibly not show up in one of the 7 sources:

Are any of these folks too UK/Europe centric to make one of the sources above?
James Whale
Esther Rantzen
Frank Field
Jonnie Irwin
Simon Cowell (wildlife)
Rob Burrow
Eleonora Giorgi

I am definitely excluding these 2 as likely too obscure for US news:
Theo Burrell
Dai Henwood

How about these 4? Are they noteworthy enough to make one of the US news sources above?
Wade MacLeod
Esther Lee
Anastasia Zavorotnyuk
Marita Camacho Quirós*

I could see Irwin & Quiros, wouldn’t bet on the others

I would suggest, for those with an illness, see if that was ever announced in those sources
If it was, would bet the death would be

Interesting, as I might not have bet on Irwin to make the sources. I see his illness has gotten a fair amount of coverage from People, so there’s at least a shot.

I also thought Quiros was a good bet.

Thought Ester Lee was a decent chance of US coverage, as her illness has been covered in People and SI. Of course the noteworthiness there is more from the angle of the Williams sisters and Shawn White.

I was thinking maybe Rantzen had a shot at TMZ both for being part of a famous british show for so long and being a “Dame”. Probably wise to exclude her, but seems like she’s close to a sure thing for croaking.

sorry, was thinking Bindi Irwin

Lee is interesting, as not even Wiki-able.
Maybe, if her clients put her in the press

Anyone take Phil Collins?

Collins has a vote from frummie. I think I considered him, then put him on the list of alternates, then took him off completely figuring 2024 is a year too early.

Collins was on my radar but I felt like there were bettr choices.

Me me me! Why, did he die?

And number one in our 2023 pool!

Collins is still alive but he`s been pretty sick since 2017.

i thought it was musculoskeletal issues

Not the exact same thing Celine Dion has, and also not apparently ALS, but … kind of in the same area? IANAD, so I don’t know what else falls there.

Hey @frummie for some reason it looks like my team disappeared from the lists above with your most recent edit
