Always nice to see Inter Miami get denied a trophy.
Also always nice to see Luis Suarez being his usual classy self.

Strange that SEA couldn’t manage a single win at the CWC (was a group of death, though), at home, but sweep through this band of miscreants with only a shoot-out marring a perfect tournament.
Both in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, as are LAG, the WORST team in the west. Remember that the only way to get into the CWC in four years is to win the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Or be chosen as host.
Leagues Cup has suspended Suarez six games, Sergio Busquets suspended for two games, Tomas Aviles suspended three games and Steven Lenhart suspended five games.
This is just for Leagues Cup play, which is a bit silly IMO. Sounds like separate action may be taken by MLS and it’s working its way through the appeals process. In particular I hope the league brings the hammer down on Suarez but multiple others also deserve MLS suspension.
MLS suspended Suarez for 3 games. Can’t believe that’s all he got for spitting on someone.
Müller fits in so well. Scored three goals in tonight’s 7-0 rout of Philadelphia. He moves the ball so smartly and precisely. The playoffs should be fun here.
Busquets retiring, again.
Muller wins his 35th championship.
Still playing through international breaks, like the EFL League One, the third tier of England? I guess that is where MLS stands in World Soccer Leagues.
Then again, calling up Messi for friendlies is just a money grab for ARG.
Nice article.
Congrats to Chicago and Portland on their play-in wins. I expect they will be a handful for the first seeds they play.
Messi signed a 3 year extension with MIA.
Baseball season almost over so went to the Whitecaps first playoff game tonight. Totally dominated Dallas. The final score of 3-0 flattered the visitors as Vancouver had a 10-0 edge in shots on goal.
Had never seen Muller play so focused on him rather than the ball for extended periods of time. This is already his team: he orchestrated the play through hand signals and was amazing to watch with the ball.
Hoping Vancouver and LA advance to the next round as that game would be here. Would be great to see Son play.
Going about it all wrong.
Threaten to move unless the city/county/state build the stadium for you.
As popular as the Sounders are in Seattle, they don’t have near the leverage of NFL, MLB, NHL or NBA for public money for a new building. My Whitecaps would love to have a new publicly funded downtown stadium but that won’t happen. Like the Sounders, they play in the football stadium.
The Whitecaps are looking to widen their ownership but that doesn’t change the equation for them.
Yeah, that is the joke.
And while they could build a new stadium, it might be grass (yay!) but it would also likely be smaller in capacity. Probably still play their big rivalry matches at Seahawk stadium.
For Whitecaps games they don’t open up the top deck of the football stadium unless Messi comes to town. That limits crowds to about 30,000. If LAFC meets VAN in the next playoff round (likely) that would sell 50,000 tickets requiring opening the top deck.
MLS to make all games available for Apple TV subscribers. I always thought throwing all games behind a paywall was a stupid move for a league trying to attract new viewers. At least now maybe they’ll pull in more viewers from that subscriber base.
I’m guessing it’s bad news for me, as I’m not an Apple TV subscriber. The news doesn’t specifically say they will no longer give season ticket members “free” access, but that’s what it sounds like to me. Not sure I want to give Apple $100/yr just for road games. I’ll think about it.
MLS votes to flip the calendar, bringing it closer to the Euro calendar
They are also moving to a single table format with five 6-team divisions. The article is not clear on what the purpose of divisions is in a single table format.
Perhaps that was not the goal.
Um, Super Bowl is on Sunday afternoon/evening.
Plenty of time on the rest of the weekend (Fri-Mon) to stage matches.
ETA: this is the top headline story on ESPN. That is how groundbreaking this is.
(Or, maybe it’s just the most recent headline.)
